Stunning.Posted Oct 24, 2013
Pros: The grounds, at the bottom of the drive as you enter the hotel grounds there are llamas.
Cons: Fabric, carpets, curtains and bedding.
Location: The location is stunning. There are lovely little yorkshire villages all around plus the sea is very close.
The overall experience was great but we had to change rooms twice because some of the other rooms were not up to standard for a hotel of this kind. My husband comes from this area so he was a bit disappointed.

Fab location in beautiful surroundingsPosted Sep 2, 2013 on Hotels.com
It's a beautiful hotel in gorgeous & very relaxing surroundings and it does take your breath away as you drive in. Bit of a mix up with our reservation on checking in but soon sorted & staff were very friendly & helpful. I wish I could rave about the room - but sadly I think it would be the thing that would put me off going back there again. :( After a very very lengthy hike to get to the room in the Woodland Wing (wish I'd worn comfy shoes!) I was a bit disappointed to find the furniture chipped, mismatched and although a vague ye olde theme was hinted at, the red garish tv unit (which we were disappointed to find didn't contain a fridge) stuck out like a sore thumb in all honesty. The window only opened a couple of inches, and we had a 6-8 inch desk fan in the room - which was by no means adequate for such a warm night. This made for an uncomfortable night. I was peeved that despite asking for ice to our room more than once, we waited around 2 hours for it to arrive and only then because the chap who brought the food to our room went and got it himself! So whoever originally took the call on reception clearly ignored our request. The food was nice, didn't overwhelm us. We both had steak and chips but were a bit disappointed bout the small portions and McDonalds-like fries with the steak for the price. Room was clean & nice overall & bathroom was lovely. It was peaceful during the night and had it not been so warm in the room I'd probably have got a good night's sleep.

Great Base for North York MoorsPosted Aug 28, 2013
Pros: Quiet. Access to countryside & coast. Setting.
Cons: Charges for wifi & breakfast unnecessarily high. No fridge or ice maker.
Location: North York Moors - Whitby, Eskdale, Goathland, Hutton le Hole Coast - Saltburn, Sandsend Interest - South Gare
I am originally from the area, so revisiting. A great choice for a smart hotel experience, either for a stopover or a more serious stay. It is solid countryside from the hotel to Whitby. Rooms are modern, though some are in the attic with not too many views. Extra charges were high & the main disappointment, especially for the area & I'm sure will put many off altogether to eat out or bring own drinks in. £17.50 for breakfast. £5.99 for wifi. £9 for a 175ml glass of mid range wine. I wasn't expecting or wanting cheap, but these put me off spending all but bare minimum, which was a shame. Wifi should be free in a full service hotel (isn't it what you pay for?).

Amazing Food and Fanatastic Friendly ServicePosted Aug 15, 2013
Pros: The al a carte food in the evening was exceptional. I am a chefs daughter so pretty fussy!
Cons: The room we had was a ten minute walk from the restaurant. to be fair though this was good exercise.
Location: Teh location is ideal for visiting other places like Whitby, Redcar, Saltburn.
The amazing food and friendly service make this hotel stand out from the rest. As soon as you make your way up the drive you sense you are going to experience quality. We have stayed in a lot of hotels and this one is now top of our list.

Adequate comfortPosted Aug 12, 2013 on Hotels.com
Not too impressed at the overall comfort and quality of hotel. Too pricey for the type of hotel - get better hotels for the tariff. Breakfast service good.
