“Eshel Hotel, Herzilia”
The positive side of this hotel is the people running it. They are truly helpful and friendly.
Now for the down side. It is an old building. It is a bit run down. The sink sprayed a fine stream of water that splashed everywhere. You got a shower when you brushed you teeth.
The breakfast, included in the room, was palatable, but not very fancy. Bring your own coffee. They serve grounds, and hot water with no means to filter the grounds out of the coffee.
The location is north of Tel Aviv. That is good and bad. It is a bit far away from the night life in Tel Aviv, but local dining costs are significantly lower than in Tel Aviv. There is a convenient money changer within easy walking distance that gave me a better rate than my own bank when I used my debit card.
The beach is within easy walking distance, but beach access is limited. There are hotels built up on the coast and you must go around them to get to the beach.
Overall, the hotel is not a bad value for the cost, compared to other hotels in the area. If you are willing to accept some discomfort, you can save a bit by choosing this hotel.
The people working there really did make a difference. Where it not for their friendliness and helpfulness, I would have rated this hotel a solid "don't stay there".
BTW, if you check out on the Jewish Sabbath, Saturday, the checkout time is 18:00, rather than 11:00 or 12:00. I don't remember the checkout time for other days. I don't know if other hotels do the same.
