Where to stay in Tenby

Your Guide to Tenby Hotels

If a warm Welsh welcome is what you crave, hotels in Tenby offer all you need and more! From the luxury of 5-star hotels and the convenience of the local 4-star hotels, all the way through to friendly family-run guest houses and budget-conscious B&Bs, Tenby hotels deliver every time on price, quality and downright charm.

Tenby means "little town of the fish" and that's a perfect description of this delightful walled seaside resort on the beautiful coastline overlooking Carmarthen Bay. Book into one of the town’s romantic hotels, put on your walking shoes and start your voyage of discovery on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, or wait for low tide to cross over to St Catherine’s Island, a striking limestone outcrop topped by historic Palmerston Fort, whose waterline laps the shores of a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Carew Castle is one of the gems of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. A circular walk offers spectacular views of the castle and the estate, which also includes an 11th-century Celtic cross, a medieval bridge and the only restored tidal mill in Wales. The site is open all year round and guided tours are available during the summer season.

Further along the coast, in a fabulous setting overlooking an unspoilt beach and with wonderful sea views, Manorbier Castle is something of a media star. It’s been used as the location for the BBC’s adaptation of "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe" and the 2003 film of Dodie Smith’s famous coming-of-age novel "I Capture the Castle". It was here also that the young Virginia Woolf decided to become a writer, and the poet Siegfried Sassoon was inspired to write "A Ruined Castle". Appropriately the castle has recently launched its own creative writing courses, with residential workshops and tutorials led by published authors.

Tenby is a perfect destination for those who want to get away from it all – but it’s far from inaccessible. Nearby Cardiff International airport has an hourly service to Amsterdam Schiphol, offering quick and easy access to the world’s air corridors. Numerous airport hotels provide instant online booking, making Cardiff a popular starting point for international visitors to Tenby. During peak season there are also direct rail services to London Paddington, and a good range of business hotels makes this the perfect choice for a spot of networking before heading off for the wide open spaces and some well-deserved Welsh hospitality.
