great breakfast & close to the train station

Posted Sep 27, 2013 on Hotels.com
Hotel Picchio has 2 things going for it - its closeness to the train station - the down side being that the funicular to Orvieto stops at 8:30 and restaurants don't re-open until 7:30 in the evening - and its breakfast - 4-6 fabulous pastries are baked nightly for our morning enjoyment - my oh my

Hotel Picchio

Excellent place. The family run hotel does an excellent, low key, job. Most rooms are in a new building, They are up a hill from the train station; a short walk. If you have a car, the hill is a challenge due to steepness but managable, There is four parking spots in front of the new building and more space higher up the hill. Juvanna makes her own pastries for breakfast. They are excellent. You will have a wonderful local experience. Easy to get to Orvietto via the Funicular and buses.

Good value.

Cons: Our room was across the street from the main hotel.
Location: Location of hotel is in Orvieto, scala, not in the hill town of Orvieto.
Breakfast was not included in price. Walk up to hotel was ok but if you are toting luggage, might be a bit much. You need to take the funicular, an easy walk, to get to Orvieto.

"Excellent value for the money"

Though located at the bottom of the hill on which Orvieto stands, climbing up, or taking the trolley makes it ideal for a visit. Taking a flash-light is recommended if you decide to climb down after dark, and the steep climb is relatively "short and sweet"!

Friendly staff and good facilities

Very friendly and helpful owner. Room was perfect as a stopping off place and secure parking was excellent. Lovely beautiful location and a typically Italian setting on a quiet street.

Good value choice at foot of Orvieto hill

Posted Aug 28, 2012
Pros: Balcony, with table and chairs! And the fridge (to chill the wine to drink on the balcony!)
Cons: Not much - air-con was not strong, but wasn't too much of a problem.
Location: Not in the main part of Orvieto, but close to the funicular for a quick ride up the hill. Parking was easier not being in the main town.
Modern clean rooms of reasonable size, large-ish bathroom. Air-con and fridge, and little balcony with table and chairs! Lovely staff/owners. Great value overall!

Great hotel, fantastic service

Although not in the town of Orvieto, this hotel is charming and the owner is extremely personable and helpful. The Noel is a few minute walk from the tram and train station. You can take the team or walk to the main town of Orvieto. This is a great alternative for cost conscious travelers.

Good value in Orvieto

Hard working family run hotel at the lower part of town. Room had double doors that opened to a patio. Felt part of the neighbourhood. Shower did not drain well and air conditioning didnt work but still enjoyed our stat.

Very convenient

Comfortable if not fancy. Very close to the walled city - for walking, or using the funicular. Met my expectations.

Great room - Close to tram - Sweets for breakfast

Posted May 6, 2012 on Hotels.com
We stayed in the new building. Huge room. Comfortable bed. Walk-out patio. The hotel is a short 5-minute walk to the funicular. The breakfast is delicious with many types of sweets. I should have paid 5 Euro extra to park our car in the hotel garage. Parked on a side street overnight, the left front fender was slightly damaged. Please note that the Garmin GPS database has the incorrect street address (Salvadori). Also the wrong code (05018) We had to find the hotel "the old way" by asking for directions.
