disappointingPosted May 24, 2015
Pros: The garden, the sheep, and cattle close by.
Cons: Renovation of rooms, better greeting of guests, friendlier staff, breakfast available earlier, restaurant hours of operation in mid week.
Location: In our opinion Lisdavoorna & Ballyvaughn were not worth stopping. There is really nothing to do in the area besides the Caves. Very remote.
Very disappointing. Hotel has nothing to do with a castle, its a very old hotel with rooms that have not been updated. The first room we were shown was very small with a bad smell and small windows (no bay windows), one window had a view if you bent down enough. The second room was better but the only view we had was the side lawn of the hotel. The bed was very uncomfortable and old, it the room was noisy from people in the hall and the next room. The bathroom light had a fan which did not turn off for a very long time and made using the light in the bathroom unappealing. I tripped in the middle of the night (couldn't use the bathroom light due to noise from the fan). No conditioner to wash hair. Restaurant closed on a Wednesday night however the bar menu and food, despite being very limited, was prepared very well. Another guest played a very loud music CD of instructional instrument and no one asked him to stop. The staff was friendliest when we were leaving rather than we arrived. The hotel should be marketed as a rural farmhouse type of hotel in garden surroundings in the Burren. Both towns close weren't worth wasting valuable vacation time. We were very disappointed we left the Lakes of Killarney and our previous hotel for this place.
