Comfortable & clean with personal servicePosted Dec 1, 2013
Pros: It was remodeled just a few years ago and rooms were nicely appointed. The small size made it feel comfortable and personal. Felt very safe.
Cons: ASK what you need to know. Most information is by word of mouth. Few written instructions or posted signs/policies.
Location: Two other small hotels on same cove provided nearby dining and bar options. Water taxi can pick you up at the hotel and take you to Stocking Island.
It was our first trip to Exuma and the Bahamas and this place was perfect for us. Intimate hotel with only 16 rooms and each has a balcony/porch with a direct water view (palm trees partially block the view from 201). All of the staff members including front desk, restaurant/bar, and cleaning/maintenance staff were friendly/helpful and several greeted us by name daily. There was a light continental breakfast included with a full breakfast menu available if you wanted to pay. Besides breakfast, we ate two delicious meals here--especially the Friday night buffet. There was a small pool that no one swam in because the beach was so much more inviting! The "beach" area directly in front of the hotel was small, but it was only a short walk to Jolly Hall beach which was one of the most unspoiled, beautiful beaches I have ever seen. It would be possible to eat all meals in the hotel and never leave but whenever we wanted to venture out, the staff was helpful and gave us good suggestions or made arrangements for us to be picked up. This hotel is only about a mile from "downtown" George Town but it is not safe to walk--the cars go fast on a narrow curvy road with no sidewalk and little berm. We walked it twice but would NOT recommend it. The cab ride to "town" is only ten dollars and other than eating in one or two restaurants and a few shops/straw market, there wasn't much to do there. If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing vacation, Augusta Bay is the perfect spot!

I do not recommend itPosted Nov 22, 2013
Pros: Close to the sea
Cons: Communication (see above) and food quality
Let's go straight to the point: in my culture, what they did to us is called a rip off. May be in other cultures this is acceptable, I let you judge. We checked out at 1200PM and they charged us 50USD for late check-out because the normal check-out time is 1100AM. BUT - they never told us, particularly during the check-in, that the normal time to check-out is 1100AM - they never told us that even ONE hour extra would be charged 50USD - it is not written in the room - when I told the lady at the check-out counter that I do not want to pay these 50USD, she told us that anyway it is already charged on our credit card: they had processed the credit card charging even before showing me the bill - when I showed surprised about that, she told us that, when she took her shift, the manager had told her to prepare the bill including the 50USD for late check-out. How on earth, at 0800 AM did the manager know that we would check-out late - when I asked to talk to the manager, he was conveniently not reachable Otherwise: - the staff is very nice and helpful - the room is ok and confortable (we took a sea view room) - the sea is just a stone throw away from your balcony but there is no beach at high tide - the food is just ok and their continental breakfast is really poor Erick

Nice hotel on beach and great management and foodPosted Nov 11, 2013
Pros: Management, staff, cleanliness, location, food.
Cons: Entertainment very limited, but we enjoyed music next door when we were not enjoying the quiet of watching the sunsets.
Location: Walk to George Town, 2 lovely beaches, pool at hotel, local Fish Fry for food, Stocking Island, stingrays and conch burgers, Mamas for lobster !
Opted for this hotel although most of the wedding party went to Sandals. We were very happy with our decision as we like to experience the island and the people who live there. No disappointments at all. We also rented a car for a few days and got to see the whole island. Also rented a power catamaran and island hopped which was great fun. The hotel manager and staff were exceptional and made our stay very pleasant and fun. We also met the owner of the hotel who is very personable and relaxed. We will return !!

Pros: The food was excellent and the hotel staff were wonderful. I loved how I could step outside my veranda and go straight into the ocean.
Cons: Beds are very hard. My back hurt after sleeping on the hard mattress. Also, I reserved two queen beds online but only got one bed.
Extremely friendly staff who treated you like family.

Did not get what was indicated on Expedia,Posted Oct 23, 2013
We booked an ocean front room and ended up on the second floor overlooking the pool. The server in the restaurant (an older gentleman) was rude and lacked any semblance of service. When on Exuma, your basically trapped, with few options for dining or lodging. Beware.

My stay at Augusta Bay was very relaxing .Posted Oct 21, 2013
The staff at Augusta Bay are very friendly. The flight arrived early so Tanya checked us in early. Pam booked the rental car for us . The food great especially the stew fish and conch. Douglas was very friendly and helpful. I would definately tell a friend to stay there and certianly go back. The hotel is very close to the fish fry and grocery store. The beaches are beautiful. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation Augusta Bay is the place to go.

Beautiful view, nice poolPosted Oct 19, 2013
Pros: the view
Cons: customer service; refrigerators in the rooms; a small shop with necessities such as water, aspirin, tampons; a courtesy van
Location: you can walk to the fish fry and that's about it. Everything else is a cab ride
This hotel is far removed from any activities. The beach is quite a walk and not at all convenient. There is nowhere to get a bottle of water or aspirin or any other sundries you may need. I'm glad we smuggled in our sunscreen or we wouldn't have had any. There was no phone or refrigerator in our room, although other guests had a refrigerator in theirs. The view is pretty, and the pool is nice, and it is within walking distance to the fish fry, but there is nothing else positive here. Exuma Beach Resort next door is fun, and they have a bar at the pool, unlike Augusta Bay where you have to go inside and ask for a drink. They are certainly not going to ask you! We went to the breakfast "buffet" (bread slices, sour fruit, and yogurt) one morning and asked for coffee, and we were told to get up and get it ourselves. Tanya at the front desk is useless. We told her the moment we arrived that we wanted to go on a thunderball grotto / swimming pigs tour, and she informed us that the tours probably wouldn't be going out due to bad weather coming. I think the boat captains should make that decision, not a hotel clerk. She made one phone call, and due to her incompetence, laziness, and unwillingness to provide customer service, we missed the tour - which was our main reason for going to the island. I personally spoke to the boat captain who told me he never had a phone call from Augusta Bay. Truly a disappointing experience.

Slow SeasonPosted Oct 5, 2013
Pros: The room had a great view. The staff was friendly . The owner was nice.
Cons: It would be nice to have sausage or bacon added to the morning breakfast. Also they only had fish offered for dinner on Sunday night.
Location: Take the water taxi to chat and chill Take the coatline tour. The public beach down the street is nice for swimming only. ( no reef or coral)
The ocean water out in front of the resort is very warm and shallow. September is their slow season. Many places such as restaurants and resorts are closed. The only dive shop on the island was closed. I brought all my gear for nothing. Many side trips were scaled back or canceled.

Great stayPosted Sep 25, 2013
Pros: Loved it
Cons: Only thing I would ask is to expand the dinner menu I include burgers and smaller items.
Location: Town was a little far, and it would be nice if a water taxi came to the hotel.
Everything was great, John was incredibly helpful with all our questions about the island and pointed us in the right direction of an amazing island tour. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We had a great time!

Great Hotel on the beach.Posted Sep 2, 2013
Pros: Everything - no complaints.
Location: Walking distance to different beaches, restaurants, bars. 5 minute ride across Elizabeth harbor via water taxi to the Chat-N-Chill.
Just enjoyed another 7 day stay at Augusta Bay in beautiful Exuma. We now stay here every time we visit Exuma and every time, never disappointed!! Ian and John and all of the staff at Augusta Bay are WONDERFUL! We never have any complaints. Rooms are beautiful and always clean, food in the restaurant is delicious and top notch and you can not beat the views from any room. You're literally steps from the beach. I would highly recommend Augusta Bay to anyone visiting Exuma Bahamas. We've stayed at other places in Exuma in the past before we discovered Augusta Bay and nothing comes close to the rooms and food and staff at Augusta Bay !! Definitely 5 + stars in my book. YOU WON"T BE DISAPPOINTED.
