"Wonderful location and price"
We brought a bachelorette party to Chicago, and this hotel was in a great location for us. They were able to put us all on the same floor. The room size, especially for a large city like Chicago, was great. The market downstairs was stocked with great items too.

"Beautiful hotel with artistic decor"
The entrance to the hotel was dramatic, which makes sense considering it is in the theater district. The decor was astonishing, in a good way. I have never stayed in a Kimpton hotel before, but have been told that each one is decorated individually. The lobby was huge and inviting, with several different areas with slightly different styles in the different rooms. The staff were pleasant to interact with. I didn't use the concierge (as I used to live in Chicago), but she seemed reasonably knowledgeable about what was available to do in the area. People did seem to interact a bit in the lobby, where there was coffee/tea in the morning and wine/beer in the evening. They are pretty good with details, such as a different fruit or mint infused in the water available in the lobby each day. The rooms are a little smaller than some places, but that is typical for many older or historic buildings in the Chicago Loop - and the design makes clever use of the space. I even had a bit of a view from my window.

"Good location for entertaining Chicago trip"
The Essex Inn is conveniently located for easy access to a lot of the activities in downtown Chicago. We were able to check into the hotel, park our car at the garage there, and then dive into the atmosphere of downtown Chicago. Very easy to walk to a CTA "L" or subway line to get access to all of the city. Close walk to the Shed Aquarium and the Field Museum. The staff at the Essex Inn were very helpful in making our experience a good one. The pool was great for the kids at the end of a long day. A plus was they had a life guard there to make sure that it was a very safe environment. The pool was also was very well heated! No "wholly cow" that is cold screeches elicited when entering it. The rooms aren't spacious, but easily accommodated our family of 4 (two adults and a 5 and 7 year old). I would definitely stay here again in the future.
