“pleasantly surprised”

Other than our room temperature being uncomfortably warm and having a hard time adjusting the heat it was a very nice stay. we have free hotel shuttle pick up at the airport and after talking to our shuttle driver decided to rent a car for the weekend as we found out taxi rides around Thunder Bay can be very expensive. the hotel even provided a free shuttle back to the airport to pick up the rental car. The restaurant on site "Chicago Joe's" had great service and food. The pool was pretty full of little kids birthday parties but was clean and well maintained. The room was quiet and clean was within walking distance to all kinds of restaurants and amenities. I would definitely stay at the Victoria Inn when in Thunder Bay again.

Area recommendations

I really liked being close to the airport as our flight the next morning left at 6:30 a.m. and we only had to leave for the airport at 5:30 cause we were so close. The Marina Park area is really pretty.

Getting around

Definitely rent a car, taxi rides can be very expensive in Thunder Bay. It only cost us $50 for a volkswagon passat for the weekend

“Don't get a pool side room”

The hotel itself is fine as long as you don't get a pool side room. They have air vents that don't close directly from your room to the pool room. It is extremely noisy. The sign at the front desk said the pool closed at 10p.m. We were OK with that it was 9:45. But the noise never stopped. We called to change rooms because we were extremely exhausted from the day and wanted to go to sleep, and were told they were all booked up. The pool actually closed at 11p.m. The pool is some kind of salt water and wasn't fun to swim in. After the noise finally stopped after 11:15p.m. the bright light from the pool area shined right on one of the beds making it impossible to sleep. There was a lamp in that corner, so we piled pillows all the way to the top. It blocked the light and some of the sound. If you stay here ask for more pillows. It was highly overpriced for the room we got.

Area recommendations

There is an amazing amethyst mine about 30 minutes north of Thunder Bay. Off hwy 11/17. Remember if you are driving up from Minnesota, Thunder Bay is in the eastern time zone and you will lose an hour.
