Totaal vervallenPosted Oct 23, 2013 on Hotels.com

We came back for more!Posted Mar 1, 2013 on Hotels.com
This was a place that just grew on us - we had booked 4 days at the start of our Tobago visit and planned to go to Crown Point for the balance of our Tobago trip of 5 more days. We ended up taking a couple of days in Crown Point at a 4 star resort. But, found we much preferred the location at Speyside, and the layed back atmosphere at Manta Lodge, so we booked for another 3 days to complete our vacation. During our stays at Manta we found the owners and staff extremely friendly and helpful, arranging a car hire, setting up snorkeling and hiking trips, lending us Snorkels & Fins when we wanted to go out on our own. In our experience the other visitors were also part of the great time we had there, when we returned from our 2 day sojourn – we were greeted with hugs from staff and other guests – clearly this place fosters a friendly welcoming environment. We did get lunch a couple of times at a very similar property next door, but we found the service so-so and there certainly was not same friendly atmosphere. So for the detractors, yes the place needs some TLC – painting and new pool furniture would be high on our list. As far as cleanliness, it was not as good as we would have expected, however this was our experience at all the places we stayed in Trinidad & Tobago including the 4 star which was only marginally better in this regard.

It was so bad that we checked out after only one night (having booked for 4) and that was only because we had to be there the following morning. The staff were very casual, Breakfast was minimal - eggs, toast and make your own instant coffee. Certainly not value for money.

For diving and remotenessPosted Oct 31, 2011
Location: Speyside is a small village. No shops or internet cafes. But beautiful - walk 200 yards and see an abundance of nature.
Lovely people, very relaxed. 3 star hotel so not everything is pristine (problem with the plumbing, no kettle in the room). Room cleaned every day. Wonderful view - can hear the surf). Food good - not much choice but I liked that.

Mukava majapaikka sukeltajan pikkuparatiisissaPosted Jun 15, 2010 on Hotels.com
Manta Lodgella on erinomainen sijainti uneliaassa kalastuskylässä.

Outstanding HotelPosted Mar 11, 2009 on Hotels.com
The Manta Lodge and owner Clyde provided everything we could ever need. We ended up staying longer there because it was such a fabulous experience. We decided at the last minute to check out the rain forest but we didn't want to go with a group tour. 10 minutes later the hotel cook called a friend and he guided us through the rainforest, he then suggested we hike up the waterfall which was fantastic! I was terrified to try scuba, but the staff encouraged me to give it a go because the pool experience is included with your room. Clyde's son Sean is a dive master and runs the dive shop on premise. It was an experience of a life time. The reefs are magnificent. It's not like the states where people are overly friendly but if you smile and say hello to them, there's nothing they won't do to try and accomodate you.
