The room was very small and conjusted.. The area around the hotel was good , the station and convenience store was nearer to the hotel . One of the hotel staff behavior was not so good and friendly … overall it was ok

The Stay Hotel New Star Ikebukuro is located conveniently near Ikebukuro station (5-10 minute walk, depending where you exit). I guess this is what you call the typical business hotel for business travelers. It has most if not all the essential you'll need for the stay. But is not a fancy like some of the big name hotel, but is not bad. The place is old, but they keep it fairly clean (to Japan standard), compare to some motel and hotel. Don't expect a nice view or nice lighting, but is a decent place to stay if you don't want to share rooms. The Miscellaneous The hotel is located in a good location with different various shop, restaurants, and other amenities nearby (I mean it is in Tokyo). They are conveniently walkable. Sunshine City is also a walkable distance as well. The staff seem sincere and try to explain the process to travelers. They mention you should leave the key with them before you leave to explore so they can clean the room when you are out. All in the all, it is not an upscale place, but is a decent place if you are looking for something not super expensive to stay the night.

The building and rooms are clearly old, but notably well taken care of. The staff were always very friendly and helpful. There’s at least 4 convenience stores within a couple minutes walking distance and the nearest entrance to the train station is also only a couple minute walk away. They advertise laundry services, but I learned that the laundry was offsite and had to be paid for, which was a bit unfortunate

I booked it, arrived and inspected before checking in. Not what I expected. Got bad attitude from front desk clerk as an introduction, because given the look of the lobby I requested to see the room before committing fully to stay. Even though he reluctantly gave permission to inspect the room. I opted not to stay. Property needs a total remodel upgrade. Looks dated and wasn’t clean, but most importantly staff needs to learn the meaning of hospitality. Location is great but too bad they sucked!

I like that is close to the station. I don't like the sudden swap of keys when they find out I was alone and that the room smells awful because of smoking and that the smoking made the room very brown. Tye picture is different then what the room actually look like.

The hotel was easily accessible from the JR Ikebukuro station. Surrounds was ok, convenience stores around! The room was a bit small but liveable. The condition of the room was not the best… moldy walls and a bit warm unless you open the window. Otherwise it was pretty ok. Good service and daily housekeeping.

This is a nice hotel for short business stay with budget and probably for sightseeing in the Tokyo area. I was staying for a few weeks and not for comfort so if you are looking for a comfortable hotel stay, this may not be your immediate choice.

This hotel was roughly a 5 minute walk from the JR Ikebukuro station if you're not carrying any luggage. Unfortunately, none of the exits have elevators, so if you're bringing a lot of luggage with you, the walk between the station to this hotel will take longer. The room I stayed in was very basic and very small, which is typical of a business hotel room in Tokyo. Staff were very friendly and helpful. This hotel does have a washer and dryer located outside of the building and they cost 100 yen each to run. You do need to leave the key at the front desk whenever you leave the building, but there was always someone at the desk whenever I exited and entered the building. There are also a lot of convenience stores and dining options within a block from the hotel!

I like the staff’s friendliness and even though the building is a bit outdated, it’s clean. Just don’t like the voices of the visitor that I can hear from next door. Still I love my stay here for 5 nights. Will definitely come back.

Good location but run down
Firstly the hotel is in a good location in Ikebukuro. Unfortunately that’s the only positive. Rooms are very run down with marks & dents & stains all over the walls. Really needs to be patched & painted. My TV & wifi didn’t work. It took a number of calls & visits to the front desk to get it sorted. Rooms are the standard small business style you find in Tokyo. While I good price I think you can find a much better & better condition hotel to stay at for a few more dollars

The staff is helpful and friendly. The hotel is located at the centre of Ikebukuro. We can walk to the train and metro station. There are many shops and restaurants nearby. I have a nice time staying at this hotel. It is comfortable and cozy enough.

Tiny room, great service, terrible location
Pros: The hotel was very clean and the staff had decent English language skills and were super polite, diligent, helpful, etc. Cons: The room was tiny, even by Tokyo hotel standards. I'm just barely under 6 ft tall (1.83 m) and in shoes, my head almost scraped the door frames and I hurt myself getting from bed to bathroom more than once. Also, inside the bathroom would have felt an airplane restroom if not for the shower. The hotel is in a terrible location- A hike from the nearest train station and just outside of a fairly sketchy part of Ikebukero where it's easy to get turned around and lost if you don't know the area. There are some useful restaurants and stores nearby but the neighboorhood also has also quite a few love hotels and girl bars and everything that comes with that. Also, the hotel listed massage among the amenities but when I got there, there was just a small placard ad for an outcall massage service placed next to the bed. Given the nature of the neighborhood, I did not partake.

Cozy little hotel about 10 min walk from Ikebukuro Station. It’s off a main road so easy to find. Small and not ostentatious, just right for a place to sleep after activities. 3 convenience stores (Lawson’s, Family Mart, and 7-Eleven) within walking distance.

The staff that is hotel was so nice even if we couldn’t communicate in English. The location is .3 miles from Ikebukuro West Station. (About 4 & 1/2 bloocks) the only problem was the washer didn’t drain and I had to dry the clothes for a very long time. This hotel is very close to 7/11 and many eating places.

Great location and nice room size
Everything was wonderful, my only complaint is that it gets cold in the winter, which is natural for more traditional style Japanese hotels, and that the bed and pillow aren't quite up to the "European/American" standard, but again, it is a bed and not a futon, so I am happy! Would stay again.

it takes us around 8-10 mins by walk to hotel from Ikebukuro JR Station but walkable distance and convenient to the restaurant and izakaya street. The room is clean, there's a TV, hair dryer, bathroom amenities, fridge and slipper provided so you can just walk there and spend the night without worrying whether u need to by any additional stuffs.

The hotel is in a convenient, quiet location with easy access to shops, restaurants, department stores, supermarkets and train station. It only takes about 12 minutes to the main train station. There is laundry facilities with free detergent.
