Good location, good size
Chose to stay in Ikebukuro for once instead of the usual hotspots like Shinjuku and Shibuya. Great location right next to escalators leading to the train station, options to eat nearby and decent sized room with space to actually open our suitcases, unlike other shoebox sized hotels in Japan where we've struggled to do barely that. Also had an extra suitcase delivered via courier on our second day which they were more than happy to accept and advise us it had arrived when we came back to our hotel after a long day.

In spite of the slightly out-dated design and utilities, everything is in working order. For those who value simplicity and/or location more than modernity, I would recommend this hotel. If you need a wifi connection in your room, look elsewhere. Breakfast was pretty good in my opinion.

It was averagely good during my stay, but just one day I couldn't bathe due to the boiler fix. I know that this fix couldn't be avoid, but it was not good situation for me.

Great Location, Amazing Staff
Room was comfortable and clean Staff were very, very friendly and helpful. Hotel very close to station and shops. Wifi in rooms would have been great. Overall, very happy with my stay.

I wouldn't recommend
This is an older hotel close to the West Exit of Ikebukuro Station. Convenient, yes. But, the only hotel wifi was in the two-seater lounge in front of Reception. This makes getting any work done in your room impossible. Also, the hallways smelled like smoke. Address these and I might recommend this hotel. As is, I would not.

Horrible hotel..Fake pictures on website. Conned!
It was a horrible from a non working aircon to dusty room.. to burnt lamp shades and a broken showerhead...to a locked window with no ventilation to hotel staff saying they have run out of iron 2days in a row...to horrible pillows n bed that led to a backache and headache and hotel staff who can't speak English and refused to help us call a cab.we had such a horrible time. Please do not be conned by the pics on their website. Don't book this hotel ever.

Friendly hotel staffs with barely able to communicate in English. (Make sure sharpen up Japanese) Hotel shelves abit worn out. I experienced hotel bed with a bed spring pointed out at bed side. Hotel is near to Ikebukuro station (about 10min walk), with many shops and malls nearby.

I was actually excited to come here at first since it is a 4 star hotel with a very good price with a larger room (in Japan standards). However, the cleanliness is something less to be desired. There were plumbing issues and it is unknown if that is a constant problem or have been reported by others. Even though the rooms were swapped, the toilets would either never flush or leak and had a smell. When it leaked, it would appear to leak urine from the floor above. The bathroom floor was always wet and there is black mold. I would not go bare feet in the bathroom. The staff was seen cleaning the floor with bath towels, then taking the same towels to clean the toilet and then the sink! The water on the floor was not disinfected when reported, it was simply rinsed with water. The sink does not directly connect to the pipes, water from the sink falls out of a cut plastic tube and drops several inches to the ground drain. It was hard to trust that the room felt clean as a result, it reduced room comfort. The windows had to be opened most of the time since the A/C did not seem to cool. Staff was friendly but it's unfortunate the hotel had those issues.

Close to train and local food.
Less than a block from Ikebukuro station. Local dinner right around the corner. Room was larger than I was expecting. For the price it was a good deal. Other four or five star hotel are triple the cost. Double bed with a desk, TV and large bathroom.

DISCREET PLACE, RED LIGHT DISTRICT
THE PLACE IS A FIND, FOR GUYS TRAVELLING TOGETHER OR ALONE. NO FRILLS BUT GOOD ROOM, GOOD BREAKFAST, GREAT LOCATION AND EXCELLENT STAFF. EASY TO EVERYWHERE IN A MODERN ACCESS AREA. EVEN THE UNDERGROUND WALK IS RELAXING. 24 HOUR ACTIVITY.

This hotel was okay. It definitely was not close to the Saitama Super Arena which was the main reason for the stay. We could not control the temperature in the room and the air unit was only blowing out hot air. We asked for the temp to be lowered and was provided a fan. The tub had a slow drain which made taking a shower less bearable. The bed was comfortable though. The breakfast included in the rate was decent. The surrounding neighborhood was sketchy. There were a lot of what appeared to be gentleman clubs. It felt as if this was some type of red light district. Although it seemed like we were located away from the center of Tokyo, there was a subway station a block a way from the hotel in walking distance. The hotel wasn't truly unbearable but definitely not what was pictured or described on hotels.com or trip adviser.

The hotel was location a few blocks away from a major train station where you could catch both JR and Tokyo metro trains, extremely convenience. We arrived early and left our luggage there during the day. When we checked in later in the day, we were presently surprised that our luggage were already in our room. While the staffs spoke little English, they were extremely helpful and polite. The only downside was the lack of wireless internet connection. It did have wired connection.

Great location! Friendly staff.
From the time we got there the staff was very friendly. We ate breakfast there every morning. When we would get back from are running around our room was always clean. It was in a great location, just steps away from the metro system, shopping and lots of places to eat. We asked for a non-smoking room and that's what we got. The hotel never smelled of smoke. We had a great stay.

Roominess- 3 Shower is somewhat cramped, room isn’t the biggest Internet connectivity- 2 No wireless, wired only goes 0.78 Mbps Location- 3 Tucked away in a nondescript neighborhood near station Close to a station entrance, but the station is Ikebukuro and it’s still a confusing and long walk to the ticket gates Newness- 3 Tub is like this olive green that I’ve only seen in my grandparents place Overall old looking design, but nothing stained or falling apart. Except the door doesn’t close shut, which is quite dangerous. Temperature controls- 2 No way to adjust heat and the room is too hot, have to open windows Laundry- 2 They won’t do underwear or socks they said because they’re afraid of losing them, but they have same day laundry.

Stayed here for 5 nights for a leisure shopping trip. Hotel is just 30s away from Ikebukuro exit C6 however the exit is very far away from Ikebukuro JR lines...at least 10mins walk from the center of subway to the exit, walk to east of Ikebukuro is about 15mins too..i realise this happens to many stations..so i would say better pick one closer to the main exits. The overall stay was okay, staff are helpful but hardly speaks english..only one guy speaks proper english and he is only on duty in the morning to noon. We booked a non-smoking room but they gave us a smelly smoking room, we requested a room change and it was much better (besides it is still a smoking room but with less smell). The room is clean, provides necessities (slippers, shower gel, shampoo, shaver, toothbrush, hair dryer etc). My stay was during the cherry blossom season so the price is very high (personally think the quality of the hotel doesnt worth the price), but it was our only choice. If I happen to come again during a non-peak season, I would pick a hotel in Shinjuku instead. Overall experience is okay.

The hotel is in a good location - right next to Ikebukuro station (which has JR and multiple subway connections). The room was spacious (especially by Japanese standards). The room was a little outdated (especially the bathroom) when compared with the overall style of the hotel, but clean and comfortable. There is no wifi which was a problem for us.

Great hotel in a convenient location
Stayed at Hotel Strix this past week with my family. Overall, I thought it was a very pleasant experience. The staff barely speak English but a couple speak fluent Mandarin. Facilities and rooms were very clean and comfortable. Japanese-style breakfast was also delicious - will definitely come back in the future while visiting Tokyo!

Spacious by Japanese standards and for the price. Location is convenient as it's just outside one of the subway tunnels. So long as you remember the tunnel number, you'll be fine finding your way back. 7-11 and restaurants are just around the corner. My only gripe would be it's not a good place to stay during winter if you're from a tropical country. The rooms were cold as the walls were not insulated (earthquake-proof non-concrete walls). So the room felt really cold. Note: There are no heaters in the room. Breakfast was sufficient though no buffet spread just a set menu choice (western/japanese)

Hotel was clean, rooms surprisingly roomy for Japan, but walls were very thin and hallways were very noisy. The vending machine located in hallway, just outside my room, seemed to be a main gathering place at all hours of the night, as was the all night restaurant/bar across the street. Was awoken at least once, usually several times, every night of my stay. Hotel was very basic with very few amenities and breakfast provided was mostly inedible. Overall: hotel was OK but would not recommend it to anyone.

Good Quality Hotel and Convienient to Ikebukuro Station
The room was very clean, and although a bit small by US standards, in line with our expectations. Wall sockets for laptops, recharging cellphones, etc were a bit scarce...but I found a powerstrip hidden under the desk. The room also came with free internet. The Hotel Strix is located about 3-4 block from the Ikebukero station, so it was very convienient for the Tokyo area day trips we made. However, the station is very large with multiple exits, so you'll need to pay close attention to the station signage to find the West exit. Best to have an area map with you as you navigate the 3-4 block to the Hotel as it is tucked behind a few other buildings. We would definatety stay there again.

格安弾丸ツアー！
一泊だけの東京滞在で格安のホテルを探しこのホテルを予約しました。酒が入りチェックインは夜中になりましたが受付も丁寧に対応してもらいました。部屋も清潔でベットも大きめでゆっくり休めました。また東京に来たら泊まりたいホテルです。

立地は駅（地下道を通れば雨にもほぼ濡れず）も歓楽街も近くて良い。　部屋も一般的なビジホより広かった。　築年数はけっこう経過しているのが各部の経年劣化で分かる。　洗面台からずーーーっとチョロチョロと水が流れる音がしていたのと、有料チャンネルのコンテンツ（ア〇ルト以外）がマイナーな作品ばかのだったのが残念…
