Tiny one mattersPosted Jul 28, 2014
Cons: I think they have done wonderfully.
Location: Eat ramen from vending machine restaurants and cat cafe nearby.
Some things are beyond your control like the subway has no elevators or lift, and you had to drag your suitcase up the staircase to get out. Then there are things that pleasant to come home to, like your room. At Oak Hotel you have a choice of traditional Japanese room or Western room, and that is great. Variety is the taste of life. Computers, internet, wifi, ask for directions, and maps; this place has it all.

A good place in UenoPosted May 20, 2014
It's close to the rail and subway stations. I love Ueno park and the whole surroundings, museums and the zoo and the lotus pond. About 10 min walk from JR Ueno station. There's a subway station that takes you to Asakusa for the shrines. Missed the entrance sign twice at night time but easy to find my way back. The staff are very helpful and friendly, which is the keypoint of staying here again. The downsides are the bed and the pillow that need some time to get used to. Maybe the beds are different as I don't remember it being so stone-like before. There're at least three convenience stores and cafes and fastfood places so no worry about a quick meal.

Great for solo traveller. Excellent service.Posted May 15, 2014
Flawless experience except for one thing. Here's some advice if you plan to wash / dry your clothes. The dryer is pretty broken, so you need to use it multiple times. Either take the hotel's advice and find the bigger laundry down the road (closed Wednesdays) or make sure you have enough time to use the dryer multiple times. Don't use it on your last day when you need to be somewhere like I did U_U

Location is great walking distance from Ueno.Posted May 2, 2014
The only thing that is out for me is that there is only CNN and only channel...nothing else.

Friendly, hostel-style basic hotel in Asakusa areaPosted Mar 25, 2014 on Hotels.com
Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Good common areas at hotel (Internet access, table and chairs to meet and eat, and a small clothes washer/dryer. Bedroom was tiny and bathroom door could not open past 90 degrees as it hit both the bed and also the large overhead exposed air ducts. Had to be careful about hitting one's head on the air ducts when walking out of the bathroom (even for a short person just over 5 feet tall). Bathroom was tiny but clean. Hot/cold water fluctuated quite a bit when taking a shower. Overall, a hostel-class hotel, but very conveniently located, friendly, and an excellent price.

Budget place very friendlyPosted Mar 14, 2014 on Hotels.com
Clean, with great friendly staff, this place is a short walk from ueno main station and even closer to inaricho. Small, aging rooms with a fairly hard bed if you chose the western style (will definitely go japanese next time) but clean and good functional locational to get to the rest of japan and get from the airport (ueno serves most places). Wifi and a kitchen available. Would stay again.
