“Convenient ”

The hotel is located near Ikebukuro station which is a plus. There are many restaurants nearby. The hotel staffs are friendly, but one complain. Even I put "Do not disturb " sign on the door, a maid opened the door without knocking. I was surprised. I have stayed many hotels in Tokyo in this price range.I think that the size of room is very much the same compare to other hotels. This hotel has coin laundry which is very convenient. Also, it has 24hour open cafe. There is no outlet in the bathroom. So, I couldn't use a hairdryer in front of mirror. Also, they didn't provide a washcloth. They only provide a hand towel and a bath towel just like cheap hotels here in the States.

“Don't really want everyone to know... Then it will be harder to stay here next time!”

They are well located, inexpensive, very friendly in the way that a hostel should be, but also "professional". Everyone there is doing a great job.

“Not a Hotel.”

I realize it says "Hotel" in the name, but this is primarily a Hostel. If you are traveling with family, don't stay here. If you are shy, don't stay here. If you are messy or unorganized.... Don't stay here! The hostel room I was in had 4 Bunk beds (8 beds) and not much room for anything else. There's an area downstairs to store your luggage if it doesnt fit at the end of the beds, or under them. But if you aren't shy, messy/unorganized, or with a close group, this is an awesome place to stay because you meet so many new people and make so many friends!

Area recommendations
If this is your first time in Tokyo, hit up all the traditional tourist spots. If you like viewing cultural history and Temples, GO EARLY! The areas you are allowed to go to are usually open early, but the nearby shops don't upen until around 10. Actually, not much opens until 10. But if you go the temples earlier you can see them and wander around without a lot of people in your way.
Getting around
Yamanote train line will probably be your best friend. But almost all of the trains have the next and previous stops listed in both Japanese and Romanji (roman letters of the pronunciation of their words)
Nightlife
Kabukicho. You might hear a lot of bad things about Kabukicho from Japanese natives, but it's a really fun place, and it's not nearly as bad as they make it out to be. Hollywood Blvd on a weekend night is incredibly worse.

“Convenient”

Walkable distance from one of the largest train stations - JR Ikebukuro Station with other train lines, the hotel/hostel is convenient and affordable. They were also accommodating in terms of leaving your luggage if you go away in between stay. The staff are friendly and organize social & cultural activities for those who staying. However, the large number of people staying and between the 2 buildings, I feel that the shared common living areas and kitchens available are under utilized, especially since they have a 24-hr restaurant/cafe on the street level with free WiFi use. The rooms are small and slightly cramp, but clean and typical of Japanese budget/business hotel. They offer free tv use, fridge, and free internet via USB. The affordable price and location and their luggage storage services, is the hotel's biggest draw.

Area recommendations
Shibuya for the pop/culture nightlife. Ueno for the museums and food. Harajuku/Omotesando for pop culture and fashion Asakusa for the culture, food, and old Japan feel. Akhihabara for electronics and games. Shinjuku for bars and restaurants.
When to go
Winter for some onsen (hot spring) experience. Spring for the cherry blossoms and milder weather. Summer for hiking Mt Fuji (only in July & Aug) and summer festivals, but its very hot and humid in Japan in those months. Autumn for foliage and milder weather.
Getting there
From Narita Airport: JR Pass or JR East Pass holders can use their pass to use the Narita Express. For non JR Pass holders, you have to pay approx 3,300yen for one-way to Tokyo Sta using the Narita Express, but other cheaper alternatives are available such as the Keisei Liner (1000yen) and the Keisei Skyliner, which are cheaper but slower. There are also limousine bus available to/from around Tokyo and Narita. Taxi is costly as Narita Airport is about an hour away from Tokyo.
Getting around
JR Pass holders can use the JR Yamanote Line which stops at major neighborhoods such as Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku, Ueno, Akhihabara, Tokyo Station, Ikebukuro, and Yoyogi, with attractions at a walkable distance. Except Asakusa which will require a transfer to a Tokyo Metro Subway line or a different non-JR train line.

“more of a hostel than a hotel”

Don't let the Hotel in the name fool you, this is more of a hostel than a hotel. You can't use your phone in your room, you can receives calls but you can't call out, even to local numbers. Every time you need to make a call, you need to go down to the lobby to use the pay phone. This place is located in some back alley, it's very difficult to find, even for local people.

“it's cheap & fun for Tolyo”

please bring a sheet for the bottom and a sheet to cover your blanket the mattress is very hard so a sleeping bag is the best way to cover you then you don't need two sheets & blanket no soap, no shampoo, nothing except for a hard bed :-) people are very nice and friendly & the staff are very helpful Restaurant are plentiful. I would stay again

“will be back”

Ive stayed in hotels in Japan before, this one was not the most beautiful, but it was by far and away the most welcoming. The staff was extremely courteous and outgoing, and very welcoming to foreigners like myself. Location was perfect, real short walk to the train station, with plenty of restaurants and convenience stores nearby. I believe there is a very cheap hostel there as well, I opted for a single room and bathroom, rates were extremely reasonable. Overall had a great experience with this hotel and already plan to stay here when I return.

“Good for the price”

The staff at the Sakura was excellent. They all spoke English well enough to help me get things figured out. The room was small but for the price, it wasn't bad. The only big issue was noise. This is a very noisy hotel...the walls are thin and there is a lot of noise from adjoining rooms and the hallway. If you are at all noise sensitive, you may want to bring earplugs or try a different hotel. The cafe was okay for breakfast. About $4 US for the continental breakfast of soup, toast, coffee, or tea.
