Awful place to stay for two days

Posted Jan 6, 2015
Worst hotel ive ever stayed in. Awful decor, terrible bedding, heat didnt work,no fan in the washroom and i could go on and on. For a howard johnson this was terrible ive been in many more that were amazing and for a yorkville location this is embarassing.

disappointed

Posted Dec 31, 2014
Bathroom wasn't clean, there were hair on the toilet and in the bathtub. carpet was dirty and there was thick dust in the corners and behind the bed. it felt discussing. Coffee cups were not in plastic, therefore it felt as they were not clean. overall I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, it feels and looks dirty.

The front desk staff were very polite however the hotel room had a musty smell that hindered our experience.

You pay for the location

Posted Dec 15, 2014
Pros: Location. Free internet. A free breakfast was offered (wasn't great, but it was offered)
Cons: Everything else.
Location: It's all here. This is the prime shopping location in Toronto. Eatons is within walking distance. The ROM is also very close by.
I was kind of surprised by how shabby the hotel was given that it was in Yorkville. I guess the room was cheap compared to other hotels in the area. Everything was terribly run down and I just didn't feel clean after staying in this hotel. The breakfast room looked like was modelled after a third word prison dining hall.

Good location and reasonable price.

Posted Dec 15, 2014
Pros: The location and price of this hotel suits me.
Cons: It was December and the room was quite cold when I checked in. It took a while for it to warm up (controls in the room). Later warmer.
Location: It is located near Bloor Street and high end shopping for those who prefer to spend their money on that. There is also a Whole food store very nearby.
It is already covered below. Although I should add that it is a non-smoking hotel but both times I could smell fresh cigarette smoke in my room. I complained the first time but nothing was done. The second stay I did not bother but since there was the smell of fresh cigarette smoke at intervals all through the night I think it is hotel staff who are smoking near a vent that then filters up through the hotel. However I really like this location because it is within walking distance to the University of Toronto,Art Gallery. movies and subway stations.

Great Location.

Posted Dec 8, 2014
Pros: Convenience. Affordable
Cons: A bit musty. Bed was very comfortable. Shower tiles and curtain were new so a new shower head would be perfect.
Location: Easy to walk to subway even with baggage. Nice shops and eateries nearby.
Easy to find, great location and reasonable price. Hotel is a bit tired and could use a facelift. Noticed a new tile and curtain in shower. LOOKED GOOD SO KEEP GOING! Second visit this year.

This hotel is in need of a reno.

Posted Dec 4, 2014
Pros: It offered breakfast which included toast, condiments, turnovers, cereal, coffee, tea, yogurt, muffins etc.
Cons: The hotel needs a complete renovation. The furniture, especially the old style square televisions, carpets all need to be up dated.
Location: Shopping is handy. Avenue street and Bloor street offer many shops if you like shopping. Many restuarants are available.
Stayed at the HJ for several nights. This hotel is very old and quite dirty. There was black mold around the tub, cigarette burns on the night table, very dirty carpets, out- dated furnishings, old box-type televisions, 2nd floor, where the ice-machine is located, smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, my room was a faded, old and dirty place. I would not stay at this hotel again nor would I recommend it. The location of this hotel is very central to downtown Toronto and it is in the Yorkville shopping district. I chose this HJ Yorkville because of its good location, however, I did not expect the overall cleanliness to be so poor. I chose this hotel and then the locaton and identity was revealed to me. It seemed like a good choice, but, it turned out to be a poor hotel but in good location for my purposes.
