Stylish and traditional hotel in the heart of townPosted Jun 10, 2014
Pros: Great location, good atmosphere and sense of history.
Location: Trieste is a lovely and stylish city for a short break. The Opera house is round the corner and the beautiful castle of Miramare is a short bus ride.
Trieste is a fascinating blend of Italian modernity and Habsburg history, which is reflected in this hotel. The location couldn't be better, as the Piazza Unita is the cultural centre of the city with fine old buildings on three sides and an open view of the Adriatic on the fourth side. The hotel is well appointed and the staff are friendly and helpful. There is an excellent choice for breakfast, which can be had in the restaurant or, in good weather, on the outdoor terrace on the edge of the piazza. Drinks in the bar are very expensive, but there are plenty of other places dotted around the square. Guests should be aware that Piazza Unita is the social and ceremonial centre of Trieste. I happened to be there for the finish of the Giro d'Italia cycle race and on a national holiday when there were bands, parades and events in the square all day. Great cultural experience but very busy and noisy.

Great location in Trieste's main piazza. Grand style but not so up-to-date in the room. Wonderful breakfast.

Hotel is typical for European hotels with small rooms. Advertises a pool and spa, but it is not on site. Staff was not attentive top questions and requests.

Great LocationPosted Jul 6, 2011
We stayed at the Grand Hotel Duchi D Aosta in June 2011 for just 2 nights as this was just a stop-over on our way to Croatia. The location is great right on the central square, the hotel staff were very helpful, we thought that our room lacked the Italian flair in design or historical charm of some of the antique furniture in other areas of the hotel, but it was clean and everything worked ok. If you are driving the hotel does offer garage parking but it is possible to find local pay and display which come free on Saturday evening through to 8.00am on Monday morning. The breakfast buffet was pretty good, with even a small hot food selection.

Fantastic location right on the main square. Rooms are charming, with antique furniture. Grand and charming yet affordable.
