“Would love to go back”

The hotel was situated in a lovely bay and our room had a brilliant view of the bay. We enjoyed being able to hear the sea lapping a night with the windows open. The staff in the hotel were very friendly and helpful and made us feel at home. We ate in the hotel restaurant on our last night and the food was excellent. I would highly recommend this hotel to others.

“Old World Hotel in Beautiful Isolated Bay”

The staff are really helpful and committed. The setting is really beautiful with some brilliant cliff walks. Public transport is limited to taxis which are often in short supply. The bus is a very taxing and perilous walk up long hills with no footpath. The hotel restaurant looks out over the bay and has reasonable food and great staff. The whole thing is a bit like an Agatha Christie novel. You expect to see a retired major at the next table. The hotel is a little tired and dated but the service and location makes up for that. Don't expect to be able to stumble out to a nightspot though - but you might be picking the wrong island generally if that's what you're after...

“Quiet hotel in a stunning location”

Not easy to find but in a stunning location at the bottom of a series of hairpin bends in Bouley Bay. We were given a third floor room with a balcony and a view out over the sea - absolutely beautiful! This is an older-style hotel, not one of your five-star corporates, but the bed was comfortable, everything was clean and worked and the staff friendly and efficient. Breakfast in the hotel was good and hot, and the food at the Back Dog next door excellent. I've never seen waitresses run so fast with two fully laden plates in their hands - well done them! Overall a little gem of a hotel.

“The Waters Edge - Jersey”

We chose this hotel having been for dinner at the attached pub (Black Dog) on a previous visit to Jersey and decided to stay for a night this time round - The hotel sits in a beautiful part of the island, literally on the "waters edge". My only feedback on this hotel is that it is looking "tired" and really needs bringing up to date, both in terms of decor and furniture (beds etc). Even with the above feedback, I'd still recommend this place as you do come to expect the unexpected in Jersey, one day it will catch up... But then perhaps that is the everlasting charm of Jersey.

“Quaint hotel in a lovely setting”

The view from the dining room was lovely being right on 'The Waters Edge'. The food - "A little bit of nothing on a big white plate, it took a long time coming and it wasn't worth the wait" (Styles and Drew). Staff were relatively friendly and helpful once they enganged in converation. Decor is a little dated, however bedrooms were very comfortable with very large double beds. Ask for a room facing the bay. Rent a car as this hotel is located away from the main areas of Jersey and at the bottom of a steep winding road. Dont expect to 'do' anything as the hotel unless you want to sit at the bar or swim as the building is located in a very small bay, with a 5 minute walk each way exhausting the possibilities.

“Don't Do It !”

Difficult to know where to start - only stay here as an absolute last resort.The decor was probably quite trendy in 1975, now its way past it's sell-by date. All the public areas are utterly terrible.In our first room,the floor-to-ceiling wardrobe door came completely off it's hinges - luckily my wife managed to jump out of the way just in time. If this had happened to an elderly person the results could have been serious. On closer inspection of the door and frame, it was obvious that the door had been refitted so many times it was plainly unsafe. We were given another room - more tired decor, staines on the ceiling where water had been leaking in, unidentifiable staines on the carpet, furniture and woodwork damaged - on a positive note the wardrobe door was firmly attached. The staff were actually pretty good - too good for their surroundings. We only had a light breakfast from the buffet - if the hotel owners don't care about the things you can see, makes you wonder what the things you can't see are like.
