Nice, clean placePosted Dec 2, 2013
Pros: Clean hotel - friendly staff (all of them)
Cons: Noise proof windows
Location: Right on Interstate 70. Easy access. A number of places to eat within a block or so.
Clean, big rooms, nice facility. Young staff was very friendly. The hotel is right next to the Interstate so book a room away from the road if the noise bothers you. I have stayed there twice and both times had the noise. Its not too bad. Overall the hotel is a good one.

Red Roof InnPosted Nov 12, 2013
Location: Near Highland, Ill and St Louis, Mo isn't that far, just heavy bridge traffic away.
Just stayed the night but nice room and bathroom. We got in late and greeting by friendly staff person. Heater worked fine in room and breakfast very basic but filling. Would stay there again if in the area.

Smoky smellPosted Nov 11, 2013
While the hotel appeared relatively clean, there was a strong smell of smoke in our room. I found the staff very indifferent, neither friendly nor rude. The beds and pillows were very uncomfortable, even for a hotel. There was quite a bit of noise from the interstate.

not nice hotel near the interstatePosted Oct 27, 2013
The hotel was to close to the Highway. It must not have been well insulated because you could hear everything from outside.

the picture on hotels.com showed a pool and a hot tub. that is why I booked the room. when we arrived we were informed that there was no hot tub. very disappointed. there was no milk for breakfast and it would have been nice to have waffles or donuts or something other than just toast and cold cereal. other than that the room was clean and comfy.

OK for a nightPosted Sep 11, 2013 on Hotels.com
I wanted a stopover along I-70 between St. Louis and Effingham, IL. The rate at the Red Roof in Troy, IL, looked good. The hotel is about 1 mile from I-70, so access was easy. Red Roofs are budget hotels, and for a single night all I needed was a room that was quiet, clean and secure. I arrived about 11 p.m. I was greeted at the desk by a disinterested clerk who quickly pulled up my reservation. Once in the room: No AC. Not even heat. The wall unit didn't work at all. I returned to the desk to see if I could get another room. For my inconvenience, I never once heard any regret or apology. It was no big deal to change rooms, but I should not have been given a key to the first room. I was not impressed by this clerk. Once in my new room, I prepared for bed. The room had a king bed, small table with two chairs, TV, microwave and refrigerator. The bathroom was a little smaller (as was the tub), but all I needed was a shower in the morning. It appears the room had been vacuumed, but never tight along the edge against the wall. There was a strip of dust all around the room. There were signs that parts of the hotel are being remodeled. Perhaps the part where I stayed had already been remodeled; it appeared to be in good condition except for the dust ring. I didn't expect much from this Red Roof. I got what I expected. I could stay here again for a similar need, but there are lots of hotels in the Troy/Glen Carbon area. I'll likely stay somewhere else next time. (CS)

Pros: Cleanliness and breakfast bar
Cons: Maybe more selection in the breakfast bar.
Location: I wanted to be near St. Louis but not too near. It worked out perfect for exploring Southern Illinois after my visit.
The only thing that made the stay a little less than perfect was humidity in the room and a musty odor. Almost like body odor. I cranked up the air and was able to breathe ok through the night. Otherwise I was very pleased for the price.
