“Not sure why this hotel doesn't have higher ratings”

After reading the reviews for multiple hotels in the Birmingham area, I selected this Holiday Inn. I braced myself for the worst, but was pleasantly surprised once checked in. All the employees were courteous and professional. The room was very clean. The breakfast wasn't all that great, but it wasn't horrible either. Overall, I would definitely stay here again!

Rooms were clean. Staff was very helpful. I would stay at this hotel again.

I had to wait to check in when I arrived in the wee hours and was very tired, due to the computer being down. I had paid in advance when I made the reservation, but they still wouldn't let me go to my room. The hotel and my room were very hot. It took hours to cool my room down, so I could sleep. The alarm clock and iron were broke, and cleaning staff woke me up even though I had a sign to not disturb. I also needed to extend my stay, and even though they had the room and credit card on file, I had to completely check out to check back in, and come to the front desk. They also had a water pipe break in the lobby that looked like a waterfall coming out of the ceiling. On the good side, the bed was great, they had black-out shades, and it was quite.
