Ana y Jose Charming Hotel And Spa

Carretera Tulum Boca Paila Km 7, Tulum 77780 - Map
I've visted Tulum a few times and was looking forward to finally staying at Ana y Jose after trying a few other hotels in the area. On check in we were told that the hotel was overbooked and we were being "upgraded" to a nearby hotel owned by the same group. The hotel we were sent to was beautiful, but NOT what what we booked. It lacked the charm and location of Ana Y Jose. After speaking again to management the next morning we were moved back to Ana...only to be told we would need to check out again the following morning as our room was promised to another guest. Three nights, three hotels moves....put a bit of a damper on the weekend. The management worked hard to sort out the booking problem, but there should not have been an issue in the first place. Not a smooth visit, but the hotel and it's staff are quite lovely. The beach is beautiful, but beware...seaweed is taking over! You will have to tend with wind and rough waters, but the ocean is warm. The hippy feel of Tulum is slowly being replaced with a more expensive resort feel. Go there before the charm is lost!

Green Tulum

Calle Coba, Tulum 77780 - Map
"Nice, but probably a little pricey for what it is."
Based on the pictures and reviews, I thought it would be a little bit nicer. We were on the bottom floor of a 2 floor hut. It was decently nice, but a little less nice than I expected. The bathroom was a little dirty, but bearable. There is AC, but our AC remote was hard to use. It was hard to get it turened on, and then I couldn't figure out how to turn it off. So our room was actually quite cold throughout the night.

El Pez

Carretera Tulum Boca Paila km 5.5, Tulum 77780 - Map
"Lovely, personal, low key hotel!"
El Pez was just what we needed. My husband and I were having a non-kid vacation just before baby #2 comes and El Pez was perfect (there were several families there with kids too and it seemed perfect for them as well). The rooms are in a series of beautiful little houses right on the beach with an open airy restaurant/bar in the center. The staff is AMAZING. Helpful, friendly, efficient but relaxed. They made the best suggestions of what to do and where to go and helped to arrange everything. Continental breakfast was SO fresh and delicious. As was lunch. Our room was fantastic - right on the beach with a little patio to sit on. El Pez is in a little secluded sort of cove on the shoreline. The water was a little too cold for me (it was January) but I am a big wimp- I am sure for most people it would have been fine. We didn't need AC at all - it's a bit chilly in the evenings in January. The only caveats are a) the bathroom in our room wasn't fully enclosed on the top. Completely fine for us maybe not for all? b) you are sandwiched right between the road and the beach (as is every beachside hotel in Tulum) so at night the sound of the traffic and the waves are definitely present. We just used earplugs if it got loud and we slept like logs. c) We didn't love dinner at the restaurant. It was fine - but everything else was SO spectacular that it was a bit of a disappointment. But we had planned to try different restaurants for dinner anyway so it wasn't a problem.

My Way Luxury Resort

Carretera Tulum Boca Paila Parcela 1427, Tulum 77789 - Map
LOVED MY WAY! The staff were so friendly and because it is small hotel it felt very personal. Stayed in the Horizon suit which i would highly recommend. It's on the smaller side compared to some rooms but after walking the beach each day i soon realised that it is the closest bungalow to the waters edge that any hotel in Tulum has to offer. The size didn't matter. Waking up and going to sleep to the sound of the waves is just incredible. MY WAY doesn't have a restaurant but you can order drinks and food to the beach or room. A simple breakfast delivered to the room is included but we ordered eggs as an extra every day and that was inexpensive and tasted great. The beach out front as as good as any and it quiet because there are no hotels either side. The hotel is about a 15 -20 minute walk via the beach or jungle to popular restaurants like Heartwood(amazing food) but my favourite restaurant LA Margarita is only 5 minute walk on the away. You could eat there everyday and be happy - it feels very European. if you have the stamina also walk to the restaurant at BE Tulum - its bout 45 minutes on the beach but such beautiful walk. The fish taco's there are amazing. IF you want the best coffee in town go to La Zebra - world class coffee. If you want a hotel that has a fun hip vibe then this is not for you(go to Be TULUM) but if you want to relax and feel like you are on an island then MY WAY is the right way. I will definitely be going back.

Pocket Guide: Tulum, Riviera Maya Boutique Hotels

Built on a bluff facing the rising sun, the Mayan ruins of Tulum offer breathtaking views of the Caribbean. Just south of Akumal, Tulum’s proximity to Cancun makes it the most visited archeological site in Mexico. The village of Tulum, along the main highway, offers shops, restaurants, and cantinas. To the north, tourists can swim with dolphins or dive among brilliantly colored fish at Xel-Ha.
