Really great find on Minnesota's North Shore

Posted Oct 14, 2014
Pros: Great service, convenient location, and free s'mores.
Cons: We stayed in a "guest room" as opposed to a cottage. It was a little on the small side but it was serviceable.
Location: See earlier remarks.
We spent our anniversary weekend at Larsmont Cottages, our first visit there. We had a great unit right at the water's edge. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The best part would be the communal fires they light along the shore to warm yourself at night (they also provides free fixings to make s'mores!). Dinner at the onsight restaurant was great (did not partake in the massage service). Part way between Duluth and Two Harbors, a great location for anyone looking for a weekend getaway close to places like Betty's Pies, Gooseberry Falls State Park, and Split Rock Lighthouse. Will definitely return.

New and nice, but can be very expensive

Posted Oct 4, 2014
Pros: In this case, low cost, but the next highest room available jumped to $250 per night, out of our price range.
Cons: Reduce cost of mid-week rooms
Location: It is very close to Gooseberry Falls, Split Rock Lighthouse and Two Harbors.
We took advantage of a mid-week, fall discount and got a small simple room for $99 per night. this rate may not always be available and we made reservations for beginning of October (peak leaf-peeper season) VERY late, so I was happy to find a decent room in a good location. we only needed a place to sleep, so we didn't take advantage of the MANY amenities the Larsmont offers. We had used their couples massage service on a prior trip and it was VERY good and enjoyable. The inexpensive room was what one would expect: smallish, but big enough, clean, simply appointed but tasteful. The bedside table was showing big signs of wear (a couple of significant bulges from spilled water/drinks), but that doesn't bother us.

Perfect short get away destination!

Posted Sep 30, 2014
Pros: Convenient location between Duluth and Two Harbors.
Cons: The music in the lobby reminded me of Stephen King/Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" ballroom scenes. I asked if the music could be changed, answer: no.
Location: We went to the Gooseberry Falls National Park, and the Old Downtown of Two Harbors. Also visited Glensheen Manor. All worth the time and money
My daughter and I stayed here for our first business meeting, it was a great stay! Very clean, comfortable accommadations. The Larsmont cottages are beautiful in themselves and the grounds are well taken care of. Being located right on the shore of Lake Superior makes for an easy relaxing past time of taking in what nature has to offer when surrounded by good company. Staff is vey friendly as well. The restraunt in the Cottages is a bit on the spendy side, but the food is very good. The hot tub hours could be extended a bit to be more accommadating, they closed it at 9pm.

We thought we were renting a cottage

Posted Sep 24, 2014
Pros: quite
Cons: already stated
Location: Duluth waterfront
For the price -- okay. Guess we misinterpreted the word "cottage" in your literature. We were thinking more home- spun. We were disappointed that we had no chairs outside closer to our unit, as our unit had no view of the water. (We knew that beforehand, but thought a couple of chairs could have been provided in consideration of that fact.) Since we are "seniors", we would have appreciated a small safety bar in the shower, but the shower fixtures were excellent. The floor register in the bathroom wasn't working; not a huge problem for us. It was a very good looking room with large windows and we enjoyed all the wall paint colors, the bed linens and fun wall hangings. It was a very clean room. It was a surprisingly large complex.

Nice hotel and the heat was adjustable.

Posted Sep 20, 2014
Pros: Close to Two Harbors which was our destination. Beautiful overall appearance.
Cons: Since we are seniors I would have liked an opportunity to choose a room on the ground floor.
Wish we would have had more time to sit and relax and enjoy the lake.

Pros: See above.
Cons: See above.
Location: Explore Two harbors.
I was told check in was 3PM, but it was 4:30 PM. Other than that, I would recommend staying there. It was clean and the bed very comfortable. My TV didn't work, but I read instead. I could hear the child next door, as I was in a shared cottage, but was able to sleep and stay asleep all night. I liked that they would start a fire for me to sit around if I asked.

Cons: na
Location: hiking, shopping and restaurants in Two harbor or Duluth is within 20 minutes
Had a great experience. Restaurant has wonderful food and service. Pool, hot tub, and nightly fires by the lake make for a relaxing evening after a day of activities. Wonderful experience on the north shore.

Very overpriced.

Posted Aug 11, 2014
Pros: Location on the lake.
Cons: See above.
Check in is not until 4:30 - highly unusual. We arrived at 3 p.m. and needed to change for an event, and were told we would be called when the room was ready. At 4 we checked with the desk and were told the room was now ready. No call. As to the room: one flight of stairs up (no elevator); no desk or chair; cheap, threadbare bed linens; no iron or ironing board; and get this - no daily maid service; for $200 per night! This place is trading solely on its location on the shore of Lake Superior. Rates are $200 - $300 per night. For that kind of price, there are far better place farther up the shore: Cove Point Lodge, Bluefin Bay and Lutsen all offer better accommodations, the same lake location, and far better prices.

Room without a view

Posted Aug 11, 2014
Pros: They had fire pits and chairs by the lake with a quiet, awesome view. The food in the restaurant is also very good.
Cons: Provide housekeeping services.
Location: This is on the north shore near Two Harbors and Duluth so there is a myriad of things to see and do. I would check elsewhere before staying here.
This hotel is in a great location. The room we had was small but modern, clean and comfortable. However we had a view of the parking lot. The overall design and layout of the resort is poorly done, with some units facing the lake and others not. It could have been built with all units having a view of the lake, much preferable for a resort on a lake. When I booked on line, there was no mention that this hotel does not do housekeeping so I was very surprised when we returned to our room and the bed was not made, no housekeeping had been done. I did not pay all this money for a room to make my own bed. (I do that at home). There were no extra pillows or blankets in the room, and only one packet of coffee for two people for two days. They said they would have provided more if we had asked, but I didn't feel that I should have had to call the desk at 7 am and ask them to bring additional coffee to our room. We had returned to our room at 11:30 pm, after the desk had closed, so we couldn't call and ask for additional pillows at that time either.
