Okay to sleep

Posted May 2, 2014
The hotel is an older hotel that has been somewhat remodeled. Rooms are okay and seemed clean. Okay place to stay if you arrive late or just need a place to sleep.

Thank you for your comments regarding your stay with us. We are defineately an older hotel but are in the middle of a multi -million dollar renovation of which should be completed later this year. Our outdoor pool is now open for the season. We hope that when you return to Tyler you will come and see our new look.

Adequate, but disappointing

Posted Apr 27, 2014
Signs say the hotel is under renovation, but the job isn't up to the standards of other Holiday Inns where we have stayed. The staff was courteous, but the facilities are dated & the parking lot configuration is inconvenient.

Remodel nightmare

Posted Jan 1, 2014 on Hotels.com
This was and is a great property...Unfortunately, we happened to stay a couple of nights in which the sizable 5 million dollar remodel focused on the entry and elevator area. We were forced to tiptoe around wet tile and mortar while workers stopped to watch my wife and daughter walk through. We had to walk on one side one day and then another side the other day...through the mortar, the workers and gawkers in addition to being woken each morning at 7 am to the sound of workers banging and demo'ing the building in the pool area...I understand that the remodel MUST be done at SOME point, but we were never made aware when we booked and should have been offered a discount for the conditions... Heck, they should have closed for the week they were doing the entrance and lobby floor work... Just wasn't right.

Website was misleading.

Pros: Good polite people, good room, good location, except for getting into the parking lot.
Cons: Be open on what you are doing with renovations and so forth, a different way to get to the hotel.
Location: My family lives nearby, parent and siblings.
Website was misleading. It's a nice place, near where I grew up in Tyler. But the hotel was under renovation and not complete, nearly complete but not yet. There should have been some compensation or at least something offered for that. Room was very nice, all the staff and the men working on the renovation were very nice and helpful. Being mislead when making the reservation is the issue, lead to believe it had already been renovated. For me living in Indiana and flying down to visit family it is in a great location, but.

Holiday Inn, Tyler Texas

Pros: nothing
Cons: replace manager, they are not doing anything anyway!
The hotel is undergoing a remodel. The front of the hotel is blocked with construction. The entrance is marked by a piece of plywood in the parking lot with an arrow painted on it. The lights over the entrance being used are burned out. You check in by wandering down an unmarked hallway to find the front counter. The dining room was closed to guest for an outside event. The hallway has bathtubs stored in it and the carpet is protected by taped down plastic. The room smelled of smoke. The shower did not get any hotter than lukewarm. We were told at the front desk that the breakfast buffet was $12. I Understand going thru a remodel is going to mess things up a little. The lights were burned out and left even after I reported them to an employee. The entrance needs to be shown other than by a piece of plywood with an arrow painted on it. The construction material should be stored outside in the containers that were sitting all over the parking lot. The hot water boiler should be addressed first, not after the construction. Most breakfast buffets are now free, especially if the hotel is in less than good condition.

Pros: The bed was comfortable.
Cons: How about a little communication to your guests about the construction and the detour to the hotel.
Location: Do not try to turn into the hotel if you are northbound on that street.
The entrance to the hotel was under construction, and eventhough we called for directions, nothing was mentioned about this. There is no crossover to the hotel driveway for northbound traffice and nothing was mentioned about this either. The staff acted like this was nothing out of the ordinary for this location. The hot water in the shower took at least five minutes to warm up and the courtesy bar refrierator was empty.

Inexpensive hotel in the middle of town

Posted Oct 21, 2013
The hotel is old but had been partially remodeled. The rooms were fairly clean and the staff was nice. Most of the rooms looked into the courtyard which is where the pool was located. The pool was closed for the season and was green. It looked like a tornado had hit the wooden decking and pool furniture. The view was absolutely horrendous. The sliding balcony door to the room didn't lock and the door to the hallway had a faulty deadbolt lock. Overall, the place is decent for the money but I would not particularly stay there again or refer a friend to this place.

Thank you for your comments regarding our hotel. I apologize that your stay was less than enjoyable. As the signage states in the lobby area and thoughout the hotel we are undergoing renovations thoughout the hotel. The "tornado" that you saw was our maintainence crew taking out our current wooden deck at the pool. We will be replacing the deck with a pergola for a nicer seating atmosphere. We are also replacing the whole pool deck and the pool house. I hope you come back to see us again in the spring when the pool will be open and enjoy our new look.
