"A perfect hotel for a young professional couple"
This was by far the nicest of the three hotels I stayed in during our visit to San Francisco this year, and that is saying something (because the other two were also great!). The staff were very welcoming on arrival, and asked us about our trip so far, offering tourist advise and a couple of discount schemes for tour buses etc. should we wish to take them up. They offered to take our bags up to our room for us (but we were too British for that) and there is free tea and coffee not only in the rooms, but the foyer too. In the room, we had a 50" TV with great cable reception, and a pod-coffee machine, which was fully restocked each day. The bathroom was fully stocked with toiletries, and though the room was facing the very busy Geary St. it had double, double glazing windows which cut out all the noise! The only down side was there is no air-con, just a roof fan, so you had to leave the windows open as much as possible (during summer) to keep the temperature down, and then close them at night to keep the noise out. A minor concern though in downtown San Francisco. They also offer (of course) a bag drop service at check out, and had no trouble storing our 4 massive cases in the closet.

"Stay at Bijou Hotel, San Francisco. CA"
The hotel itself is situated 1 minutes walk to Market Street where most of the shopping is located the convenience itself is a plus. The staff is really fantastic they give guest the feel of home especially for a first time guest of the city their service in my opinion surpass the 5 stars hotel. As to safety the area in general there are a lot of homeless people asking for money and cigarette you just have to be polite and reject them no need to be mean or aggressive towards them mind you there is also 5 star hotel in the same area but the hotel staff really do their part by not letting non guest to enter the hotel which includes the use of their toilets. I would strongly advice family visitors do not let their children roam about in the nights. If you need a cab let the front desk know so that they get their regular/trusted cab drivers to service you but as most of the things are nearby the only time you may need the cab is to the airport.

Pocket Guide: Union Square, San Francisco Family Hotels

Flagship stores ring Union Square, among the vanguard of West Coast retail. Chinatown begins at Grant Avenue and Bush Street, while Gold Rush-era mansions crown Nob Hill. South of Union Square, the convention center area includes the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Cable cars turn around at Powell and Market streets to head back to Fisherman's Wharf.
