"Nice Hotel in a Transitional Neighborhood"
The hotel is an older style building that has been renovated and updated. The front desk staff we're incredibly friendly and accommodating throughout my entire stay (1 week). The room could best be described as what you would expect when you go to visit a close relative - bed/bathroom/closet. The room was very clean and appointed with a desk and chair, device charging station, a comfy stuffed chair next to a window, a good size closet with ironing board and iron, in-room safe, dresser, and big TV. The bathroom includes a shower/tub combo with excellent quality toiletries and was very clean on check-in. The hotel is located on the edge of the Tenderloin neighborhood which is in a very urban area and can feel a little sketchy at times. I walked in the evening without being hassled, but was usually in my room by 10pm, or took an uber to the hotel if I was going to be later. There is access to the hotel entrances by room key card if you're going to be later than midnight. Morning walks were quiet and I usually passed a few professionals walking to work. I can't stress this enough - If you're not used to continuous city noise (sirens, city vehicles, people yelling/shouting/laughing loudly) this is probably not the place for you to stay. If these noises help lull you to sleep, then you'll have no issues. Special shout out to Theo at the front desk who helped me with my stay. He also runs the nightly wine tasting and fills in as the entertainment some nights.

"Great location, but UPHILL of Union Square"
Great location, just a 5 minute walk away from everything, including Union square. But be warned--it's on top of a rather steep hill, so carrying bags up could be tiring. The hotel decor is old-school French and very beautiful - the elevator is particularly quaint! A great place to stay during our stay in SF.

"My recent stay"
I love this hotel and it is so close to all kinds of shops. It is affordable and I love the cozyness of the room. The bed is so comfortable, towels are so soft, and they lend you a robe to. I willl be going back soon.

"Stay at Bijou Hotel, San Francisco. CA"
The hotel itself is situated 1 minutes walk to Market Street where most of the shopping is located the convenience itself is a plus. The staff is really fantastic they give guest the feel of home especially for a first time guest of the city their service in my opinion surpass the 5 stars hotel. As to safety the area in general there are a lot of homeless people asking for money and cigarette you just have to be polite and reject them no need to be mean or aggressive towards them mind you there is also 5 star hotel in the same area but the hotel staff really do their part by not letting non guest to enter the hotel which includes the use of their toilets. I would strongly advice family visitors do not let their children roam about in the nights. If you need a cab let the front desk know so that they get their regular/trusted cab drivers to service you but as most of the things are nearby the only time you may need the cab is to the airport.

Pocket Guide: Union Square, San Francisco Family Hotels

Flagship stores ring Union Square, among the vanguard of West Coast retail. Chinatown begins at Grant Avenue and Bush Street, while Gold Rush-era mansions crown Nob Hill. South of Union Square, the convention center area includes the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Cable cars turn around at Powell and Market streets to head back to Fisherman's Wharf.
