Good enoughPosted May 20, 2014 on Hotels.com
The location is good if you need to be close to the city center/ciudad vieja, but you have to watch out at night (which is true for every hotel in this area). It's a pretty old hotel, so you won't love it if you're more into modern hotels. I stayed at a regular room, and I found the maintenance of the room and bathroom NOT great (eg. old carpet, hole in the bathroom wall). I did find the bedroom and bathroom clean, which was good. There was a small fridge in the room, which is always convenient. The best thing the hotel has to offer is breakfast, everything is super fresh and high quality, and there's personnel around refilling food plates all the time.

I felt Very safe and comfortable at the hotel Lafayette! The Staff was extreamly helpful and courteous. The morning Breakfast Buffet is better that I could have ever expected. The Room was large and spacious, with all of the amenities. Very pleasant accommodations and a GREAT DEAL for International travelers on Business or Pleasure. ****

A great deal for the costPosted Feb 20, 2014 on Hotels.com
We arrived from the airport around 08:30 and were checked in at 12:30, an hour and a half early, which I believe was really the best they could do. Daytime noise from construction, but everything was quiet at night. The staff was truly amazing and were very motivated to help with anything they could. The hotel is in good condition for Uruguayan standards and everything worked like it should in the room. The AC worked very well. The location is very conveniently located near major roads and bus stops, and there is a almacen (corner store) open late a block and a half away. Another block an a half away is a nice plaza with trees and a gazebo that stands right next to Ave 18 de Julio (major street) where there are tons of places to withdraw and change money. IMPORTANT TIP!!! Withdraw cash in USD, not Uruguayan Pesos from the ATM, then change it to Pesos, you will get a MUCH better rate that way. It is a short and pleasant walk to Plaza Independencia and Ciudad Vieja. There is a REALLY cool little restaurant "Torrente" a block and a half away that serves all kinds of Uruguayan food (asado, gramajo, etc) at good prices. I would not walk around at night with anything like a backpack or camera, and just be aware of your surroundings at night. There are nearby streets that are a little shady, but that is really the case almost anywhere you stay in Montevideo. I would stay at this hotel again when on budget trips.

Reconsider before bookingPosted Nov 11, 2013 on Hotels.com
My daughter and I stayed at this hotel for 3 weeks. The location was great, making it easy to get around. Unfortunately the customer service was very unsatisfactory and we needed to ask for our room to be done on at least 4 seperate occassions and twice for our towels to be replaced due to flooding caused by the shower. At least 3 times the front office employees could not provide us with directions to common locations across the city and no interest was put to find this information out for us. We also observed multiple members of staff laughing at hotel guests without realising people were watching, I am a frequest traveler and regularly stay at 3 and 4 star hotels and never complain and do not regard myself as fussy at all, but this was a very unpleseant experience. Please reconsider your need to stay at this hotel.

A good 4 star hotelPosted Nov 30, 2012
It was great for the price for a 4 star hotel. Good value if you don't want to spend much and still want to be in a clean and well located hotel.

Reasonable hotel in central locationPosted Nov 28, 2012 on Hotels.com
The hotel is a good value for the price in a central location, though I didn't care much for the surrounding neighborhood. The room was small, but clean and well maintained.
