The Hotel Sur had a lovely vib , combining the historical with modern amenities . We had a lovely balcony overlooking Paraguay calle . The room was clean , comfortable and quiet through the night .

Suitable, not fancy
SUR is located in an older building in an older neighborhood. In Montevideo, the old city is more a description than location. SUR has a hostel feel about it. The hotel met our expectations & suited all our needs. We were boarding the Buquebus ferry to Buenos Aires so the location worked well. A few blocks from the Rambla. The staff was very friendly & helpful. My daughters are fairly fluent Spanish speakers, which was needed. All in all, stay for the price & if you need the location.

A cozy hotel not far away from the Old City
The hotel is about 10-min walk to the Independence Plaza. My double-bed room is not big, but fine for a single person. The staff does not speak English, so knowing some basic Spanish would help a lot. The breakfast is not free, and it is not very good according to my friends who ate there. One thing that surprised me is that the front-desk lady recognizes all the customers, as when we walked in, she always had our room key ready. She also called a taxi for us. Overall, I had a pleasant stay at the hotel.

Great hotel!
Only about a 10 minute drive all from Independence Plaza, or a short taxi or uber drive away from everything else! Staff was amazing! We're super helpful even though they spoke limited English, but were quick to use google translate to communicate with us. Even booked us a car to the airport for 4am. Our room was very near the front desk so we did hear people coming in and out during the night, if you are a light sleeper ask to stay upstairs! Room was clean and super comfy. 👍

Good hotel for a 2-3 day stay
The hotel is well located in the city center. It has free wifi in the rooms and lobby, so that's great. The rooms could be a bit cleaner though.

Okay stay at the Sur hotel
It is a short walk to the old town and the free WiFi worked well in our room. The room definitely showed wear, the sheets reminded us of old worn sheets you find at a hostel. Unfortunately no English speaking staff were available during our stay; however we managed to communicate okay. The rooms don't feel that secure as they are locked with a single key in the knob; no deadbolt or security chain. It is a place where you are required to leave the key at the desk each time you leave. The official Uruguayan tourist guide rates this hotel as a 2 star. Overall a decent value.

Very loud night club next door
Room 216 was great for our family of 4. Large, clean with a separate space for our two kids. Centrally located. The main issue is there is a night club next door that plays music Wed-Sun from 10 pm-8am. I can usually sleep through music but this music is loud. Really loud. And it literally plays til 8 am. Unless you can fall asleep in a loud night club it's not worth a stay.

Dear Customer: No any nightclub or pub or other establishment that works at night near the hotel and has music. Nor we have rooms with the numbers. Solamentre 21 rooms. There must be a misunderstanding. Best regards!!!

Great value
Nice hotel, only three blocks from Av. 18 de Julio. Neighborhood is a little solitary by night. All rooms are very clean, with air conditioning and TV. There is no elevator, and rooms are on a first floor. There is no hotel parking, but there are some nearby private parkings few blocks away. Breakfast costs USD 5 per person.

Not bad considering the price
The streets were quiet and sketchy which made the area a little dangerous at night. The hotel was decent but the no windows things was just not fun. Room was clean and staff was pleasant

Clean but no english!
They do not speak a single word of english. And breakfast was not included. So i would suggest going to the plaza which was 10 minutes away to grab breakfast at the cafe. Given that other reviews of hotels in Uruguay seem to fare no better, i am assuming it is an Uruguayan thing and their lack of facilities and abilities to run a proper hotel than the hotel itself to blame for this. It is clean, or looks so, so for a hotel room i rate that very highly though i feared to check with a black light!

Nice clean hotel close to CBD
We are unfortunately non Spanish speakers. The staff only spoke Spanish and this made a few things a little challenging, however they made a great effort to assist us with what we were looking for. The rooms are very nice, however the heating for our room was in a box on the roof so thought the room was warmer then it truly was leaving the room a couple of degrees cooler than was desired, but otherwise was an excellent room. Location is a few blocks south of the cbd and close to a few ok restaurants. On the weekend it is very quiet in this area.

Really clean and decent hotel for this price
Overall we found this hotel a good one. Rooms are clean and comfortable. However, one big drawback is that at least our room didn't have any window and I think most rooms don't have any windows the way it has been designed but on the corridor there is enough ventilation. Staff don't speak English at all which can be a bit of problem.

Surprise nugget in the heart of town

Very comfortable and convenient location
My family and I really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Sur. Everything was great. The room was very spacious and accomadated our large family of six. The location was very central, and we were able to reach everything at a close walking distance.

Great Place to Stay in Montevideo
We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Sur. The staff was very friendly and more than willing to help from directing me to a place to have my laundry washed to a recommendation for a great empanada restaurant to arranging for a taxi pick up upon my departure. I would definitely stay here again. It felt almost like a bed and breakfast more than a hotel, and I really liked that!

O hotel é ótimo, os quartos são espaçosos e o atendimento muito tranquilo! Único problema que tivemos é que pegamos um quarto com 1 cama de casal + 1 cama de solteiro, e essa cama é muito pequena para um adulto, mas para uma criança pequena seria perfeita.

L'ubicazione è perfetta, vicino a tutti i luoghi di interesse. La zona tranquilla e il personale disponibile e gentile. Devo dire che sono stato molto bene, unica leggera pecca forse sono le pulizie, sufficienti ma non eccellenti. Tuttavia tornerei senz'altro!

Lugar simples, que cumpre com o que promete. Achamos um pouco escuro o quarto, com cheiro de lugar fechado e o frigobar estava com problemas. Mas é bem localizado e permite que se faça muita coisa a pé. Deve-se ter cuidado com o entorno, em matéria de violência, pois sofremos uma tentativa de furto.

Agradecemos su comentario. Al entrar los frigobares están apagados. Los tienen que encender el pasajero. Si cuando menciona el entorno peligroso , suponemos que será el Centro de Montevideo. Lamentamos que haya tenido una tentativa de hurto como Ud. escribe. Igualmente en materia de seguridad , los índices indican que estamos muy por debajo de la gran mayoría de los países en América. Eso no significa que haya que cuidarse. Saludos Cordiales!!!

Raramente dou a nota máxima para hotéis. Esse superou as minhas expectativas. Super bem localizado. Os responsáveis pelo estabelecimento, são muito simpáticos e prestativos. Tudo funcionando no hotel. Exceto pelo secador, que prontamente me foi emprestado outro. Muito bom. Todos nós gostamos. Se eventualmente voltar a Montevidéu, ficarei neste hotel.

O SUR Hotel está num ponto bastante estratégico para se visitar importantes pontos turísticos da cidade. Tem uma equipe bastante atenciosa, quartos com diversas possibilidades (casal, família, grupo, etc); tem as principais necessidades bem atendidas (ar condicionado, tv, Wi-Fi, camas confortáveis, e outras). Uma agradável opção para se hospedar.

Agradável e bem localizado. Falata garagem.
O hotel fica localizado na área velha de Montevideo e próximo ao centro o que é bem localizado. Entretanto o problema é garagem o qual tem que pagar 200 pesos por dia para deixar no estacionamento particular pois não tem garagem. Perigoso deixar o carro na rua pois vários casos de roubo aconteceram até na frente do hotel.
