Better options available

Pros: Not much
Cons: State of rooms
Location: Zermatt is a neat little town to visit and the Matterhorn is impressive. Take the Gornergrat-Monte Rose Bahn.
It has been quite a few years since we last stayed at the Julen, and although our room looked basically the same as the last time we visited, it was not fresh. My pillow reeked of perspiration, and I left a note on it for the maid to replace it. She removed the note from the pillow and put the pillow in the closet with my clothes. It was not replaced. The mattress also felt as if it needed to be replaced. The front steps were in a state of decay with missing mortar between the bricks. In fairness to the property, the room has good space and plenty of storage space. The bathroom was clean with a nice selection of amenities. The bar area is very comfortable.

Amazing view on honeymoon stay

Posted Jun 1, 2014 on Hotels.com
While on our honeymoon through Europe in May, we stayed at the Hotel Julen for 2 nights before heading to Italy. We arrived via the Glacier Express train, and the hotel sent a pick-up for us at the train station (in electric car of course). We stayed in a Romantic Matterhorn View room, and the view was absolutely amazing! We were on the 2nd floor, and the room did share an outdoor balcony/deck with the 2 adjacent rooms. There are also several hotels right next door overlooking the room, but we luckily had some privacy since we were visiting in the offseason. The room and bathroom were quite large, and the mini-fridge included complimentary beverages. I rate the hotel very highly, but it definitely isn't a modern, posh feel--the decor and feel is more cottage-y, which matches the town of Zermatt perfectly. The last thing I would add is that the Restaurant Julen was absolutely amazing--we ate there on both of our two nights after being so impressed with our meal on the first night. The menu is surprisingly modern, and my wife and I both had excellent sashimi appetizers as well as traditional Swiss fondue and lamb filet from the hotel owner's local farm. All in all, we had an excellent stay at Hotel Julen, and we will definitely be staying here again when returning to Zermatt.

Great hotel in Zermatt

Posted May 25, 2014
We enjoyed this hotel tremendously. We had a balcony over looking the Matterhorn. The room was large with plenty of storage space, the staff were friendly and helpful and the restaurants at the hotel were very good. All in all a wonderful experience.

Perfect ski vacation

Posted Apr 2, 2014 on Hotels.com
It was our second time in Zermatt and at Romantik Hotel Julen. The hotel and the staff are above excellent. Perfect location for skiing and dining out. Although the restaurant at the hotel is hard to beat. The spa and workout area are also top notch. We love this place so much it's become our once a year European ski getaway. Wonderful hotel in a beautiful town. Going back for some summer fun this year too...

Excellent hotel. Rooms are clean, comfortable. Hotel staff are fery friendly. Breakfast is very good, plenty of food and lot of choices. Not far from the train station, I enjoyed the nice walk to the station. Also they have complementary pick up and drop off to and from the station. I will definitely with to stay there again and strongly recommend this hotel.

Every aspect of the hotel was excellent. Only negative I had was the heat of the rooms at night, I found it hard to sleep and the pillows were to soft.
