Sleek, modern hotel

Posted Sep 30, 2014
Pros: Everything
Location: The Metroploitan is in the heart of Vancouver. Guests have access to shopping, galleries, parks, waterfront.
I was only a guest for overnight in transit on my way home from a cruise, liked The Metropolitan very much. The lobby was clean and uncluttered, but has style. The staff welcoming and friendly. Smiles all around. My room was very comfortable with large bathroom, with tub and separate shower.

Pros: I really loved it!
Cons: Nothing
Location: The big pink tourist bus stopped at the hotel often.. Loved the tour of Vancouver. Great shopping across the street!
Arrived at hotel very early with lots of luggage after an Alaskan cruise. Was in the room very quickly. Staff and bell service was outstanding! Very comfortable room and excellent bed!

Decent hotel in great location.

This is a central Downtown hotel ideally located for links to the Airport and for getting around Vancouver. The staff were very welcoming and provided useful information. The room was a Double but with a view of an exterior wall which made it feel a little closed in but was perfectly adequate for our needs and clean and modern. We only stayed one night before flying on to Tofino so did not utilise any other facilities or the restaurant.

Not what you'll expect from luxury.. Rip off.

We got to the Met and parked in the underground garage in of their many vacant but small parking stalls. The elevator ride up was a little slow and rickety; the decor a gold stained steel. The lobby was sparkly and clean, and looked like what it would have looked like back in the 1980s with geometric shapes and solid bright colours. We made it up to our room, entered, and was pretty disappointed. The decor was fine, but pretty much about as dated as it could be. Carpet: brown. Walls: wallpaper peeling. Furniture: wood cabinets everywhere. Everything, from the worn out brassy trim on wood furnishings, to the pinkish yellow granite finishing on every surface of the bathroom, to the obvious smell of smoke from past decades, was from the 80's. Save for maybe the early 90's glass TV Stand. We turned the air conditioning on immediately as it was really humid in the room, I deduced that it was likely because the shower doesn't have a vent to suck out any hot air. Also because of that moisture, the bathroom grout had a little mildew growing. Overall, a really average room and stay. I'm all for old world charm and keeping the character of a building in tact. But when the Met is self proclaiming "luxury", tacky plastic 80's lighting fixtures that are imitating glass chandeliers is not what I expect. The parking charge was 40$ and the room was 330$ for a standard queen room on the sub-penthouse.

Great hotel close to sights of interest.

Pros: We liked the location, the friendly staff and the manicured rooms.
Cons: There is nothing I can suggest as far as improvement. Everything about the hotel more than met our expectations.
Location: The hotel is located near Gastown, Robson St, Canada Place, Harbor Tower, upscale shops and reasonably priced and an entrance to the Skytrain.
We were greeted warmly when we first arrived and the staff was quick to help us with our bags. The hotel provided us with complimentary fruit, bottles of water and newspapers. The maid staff was always willing to help. The check-in desk personnel were friendly and especially when we had special needs.

Lovely, well-kept room with fantastic city views in a top-notch hotel. Great location to walk to waterfront, Gastown, and Robson Street shops and restaurants. Even within walking distance of Stanley Park and Granville Island.

Excellent downtown location

Pros: Very friendly staff, convenient location, free WiFi, indoor pool, large room w/ balcony, large bathroom w/ separate shower stall and tub, nice decor.
Cons: The flatscreen TV was on a table that placed it a little too low for comfortable viewing in bed.
Location: Downtown, convenient to public transit, walking distance to Canada Place, Granville St. pedestrian mall, Robson St. shopping, restaurants, and Gastown
Booked this hotel based on the location, and we were pleasantly surprised by how nice it was. It is a smaller downtown hotel (18 floors) that was originally a Mandarin Oriental Hotel property. It was designed using Feng Shui to arrange the rooms and lobby. There is an elaborate Chinese temple carving in the lobby in the form of a 2 sided screen about 10 feet by 7 feet with hundreds of detailed individual scenes carved of camphor wood and covered with 24K gold leaf. It is quite amazing. There are also 2 carved stone lions on either side of the entrance that are supposed to bring good luck when you rub their foreheads in passing. Our room was good sized with a king bed and a small balcony. It is a nice change from many hotels where the windows don't even open. The alarm clock was iPod ready, the bedside tables had switches to control the bedside lights as well as the room lights. The room lights could also be turned on or off by a switch at the door. Very convenient. Free in-room WiFi was fast and reliable, and free use of the printers and copiers in the business center was nice. Use of the lap pool, whirlpool and exercise center were included. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There was fresh fruit in our room twice during our stay, and they provided complimentary bottled water every day. They provided turndown service while we were out at dinner every evening, a very nice touch. We would absolutely return here!
