Nice retro boutique hotelPosted Feb 27, 2014
As others have said, this hotel was converted from condos. It is in a pretty good area, close to a couple of markets, shopping, and the beach. The rooms reminded me of a 1950's European apartment. They are really "homey." The BEST part though, was the service. The staff man at the front desk went above and beyond! I would stay here again. Only down side...no ice machine. There is a tray in the freezer, so maybe you should fill It up right when you arrive.

Perfect location, very comfortable.Posted Feb 18, 2014
We were within walking or short taxi distance of tons of interesting things to do. The room was actually a condo, which we found extremely handy. Taxi service to the location was stellar and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

Pros: You felt like home at this hotel with very friendly staff and large suites with full kitchen..
Location: You can walk to Downtown, Stanley park, Granville island market etc. All kinds of restaurants in the area where you can enjoy different kinds of food.
We stayed at this hotel for the first time and fell in love with it. Location is fantastic and is within walking distance to all interesting things to see in Vancouver. There are lots of restaurants in the area and it is just half a block from the beach. The acommodation was very clean , beds good, large screen TV, free internet, free parking etc. etc.

Very SatisfiedPosted Jan 4, 2014
This hotel is very close to the beach so you can go out whenever you want! There are many apartment buildings surrounding this hotel so its safe to walk outside at night. Its gonna be the best hotel you will find in terms of what you pay for! Beds are kinda small but comfortable. I would definitely go back to this hotel for my next visit.

Pros: The ensuite kitchen, and the roominess of it all
Cons: The beds are a little lumpy (sofabed in particular)
Location: It's right near English bay and there are plenty of places to dine out or if you need to run to a 7/11 or Shoppers Drug Mart, it's nearby
The room was a lot bigger than expected and it came with so many things I feel like I really did get my money's worth at this hotel. The front desk was super kind and I would totally recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a suite for up to four people who likes to cook their own meals.

Excellent Location and good ratesPosted Jan 1, 2014
Pros: The suite was very spacious with a separate living room and full kitchen. There was free parking and Internet.
Location: The location is fantastic. Beach is just half a block away and there are dozens of restaurants on Denman st. which is just half a block away.
We are thankful to our friend who recommended this nice hotel to us. We were very satisfied with the accommodation. It was nice and clean. Beds were good . The staff was really wonderful.

Great Location. Spacious, Comfortable & FantasticPosted Dec 24, 2013
My husband and I have stayed at the Oceanside Hotel several times now and have always had a great experience there. The staff are wonderful! Very friendly and helpful. The location is superb and the rooms are extremely comfortable. Not the fanciest hotel I’ve stayed at but definitely the most spacious and homey. If you are staying for any length of time or would rather not eat in restaurants, like myself, this is the perfect hotel. Every room is actually a full apartment with a full kitchen. Its fabulous! A home away from home. I will be going back for another stay in the very near future.

Pros: close to beach. Good size suite.
Cons: up grade room - remove rugs in order to make floors easier to clean for pet friendly accomodations.
Close to water, but the photo included in the ad showed the beach in a manner (I thought) that seemed to imply the building was right on the beach - it was not. It was a block away which is not far but it seemed to be falsely misleading. We had a pet friendly room, but it seemed it could have been upgraded to feel cleaner and more homey. We had a pick up truck and we had to park at the building next door as the secured parking was not large enough to accommodate us. Was concerned about security of vehicle.

Much better than my first impressionPosted Nov 28, 2013
Pros: The art prints. Nice front desk staff.
Cons: Some materials in the room or staff knowledge to locate good coffee, baked goods, groceries as there is a pretty good kitchen in the suite.
Location: Denman St. has changed a lot in 30 years but the bar and restaurant at the Sylvia Hotel are as fun as ever. Close to the beach.
The curbside appeal of this funky hotel doesn't do justice to the tasteful interior and the gracious staff. The suites are large and sufficiently comfortable for a reasonably priced extended stay. If you're okay with modest the Oceanside should work for you. Ask about parking before you arrive. I would not recommend this hotel to my travel agent friend who is pretty fussy about her digs. I would recommend it to anyone who has travelled a little on the rough side anywhere else in the world. It felt like an Athens Hotel.
