Beautiful Hotel with a Major Flaw

Posted Apr 13, 2015
Pros: It was very beautiful. I loved the turn-down service. Nice lobby and bar area. Extremely comfortable bed.
Cons: Charge less for the rooms that feel as if they are in the basement.
Location: Nice downtown location. Quite a walk to Stanley Park, but overall a good location.
I was so excited about staying in this hotel. It looked absolutely beautiful and luxurious. After an especially daunting travel episode my boyfriend and I arrived, but were told the system was down and we couldn't check in. We just left our bags and went to explore Stanley Park. When we came back we were all set to check in. I asked if there was a high floor available and was told no. Fine, disappointing but okay. But when I actually got the room it was not okay. We were on the third floor, so I thought we wouldn't really have a view but it wouldn't be terrible...but the room was more like a basement suite. It felt like we were below ground. I guess this room overlooked an internal courtyard and so the view was a of a black waterfall and nothing else. The room was very nice but dark and dreary. I called the front desk to see if I could be switched and they asked to call me back. No one did, so after 20 minutes we headed down to the lobby. They told me nothing was available unless I wanted to spend an extra $160 a night. I asked if we downgraded rooms if we could be moved to a different floor, no. So, we had to stay in the basement room, next to the elevator, with the sound of partying right outside, not fun. I will say, the hotel is gorgeous, and I'm sure if we were in a different room it would have been fantastic. So my advice is, demand to be one a high floor, otherwise you could be charged the same amount (we were in a "superior suite" for a sub par room.

An oasis in the city

Posted Mar 30, 2015
Pros: The room was beautiful, the staff helpful and very friendly, the food delicious and reasonable, the 1927 bar a relaxing space with great cocktails.
Cons: Had to turn off the air conditioning at night as it was quite noisy.
We stayed for two nights to celebrate our anniversary in our own city. We were looking for a bit of luxury and an escape for a couple of days, and we certainly found it here. We were impressed by the food, both delivered to the room and eaten at the lobby bar. We spent some of both evenings at the lobby bar, enjoying the atmosphere (which included live jazz piano the first night), the cocktails, the service and the beautiful room. The only disappointment was having to leave at the end of our stay.

We spend 3 days in Vancouver and was the first time in this city. The staff helped us to take the bus to go to UBC and many other places. I would recommed.
