Best possible West End/English Bay location.

Posted May 25, 2015
Pros: Staff and the historic atmosphere of the building
Location: Weather permitting, don't miss the sunset on English Bay.
Wonderful historic building. Arrived a bit early but I was able to access my room by 11AM. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. It would be hard to beat the location. Close to Stanley Park, False Creek Ferry stop to Granville Island or the Maritime Museum, Davie Street, Denman Street and not far from Robson Street and downtown. Everything within walking distance. Across the street is the bus stop to connect to the Canada Line to or from the airport. I have been to Vancouver many times. but my first time at the Sylvia Hotel. It is one of the most livable cities of the world of the world. It never disappoints.

Great location, great value!

Posted May 24, 2015
Pros: Historic building, Location is ideal. Views also great if the room is on the right side.
Cons: New elevators would be a plus, although - the old ones fit with the size and decor of the lobby.
Location: Right on the front road opposite the beach. Great walking on the pathways by the shore. Views wonderful especially if clear at sunset.
Rooms were roomy, bright and pleasant. Hotel staff were accommodating, but our restaurant experience was disappointing. No doubt the food was fine, but the waiting staff was too busy to acknowledge waiting patrons.

Heritage hotel - well positioned and old style

Posted May 22, 2015
Location: Extremely close to the beach and Stanley Park. Reasonable restaurants close by as well as facilities.
Lovely to look at and be in. Quaint appearance with some good mod cons. Great restaurant and great bar for relaxing. Some art deco trim has been kept and the historic photo decorations were appreciated. Shower was not up to Australian standards but everything else was really well kept and quick responding staff were very important features

This hotel is in a great location on the English Bay, close to Stanley Park. The hotel is older, but has a lot of charm and character. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Heritage hotel on beautiful English Bay

Posted May 17, 2015
This is a beautiful looking Hotel from the outside and an incredible area being close to excellent restaurants, the English Bay beach and Granville Island. Was however disappointed in the rooms, despite having been somewhat updated, it was not well done. Badly chipped and peeling baseboards, terrible water pressure, dull brown walls with boring furniture left the suite feeling drab and so-so despite the hefty price tag to stay there. We also found a small mouse in our room that had an unfortunate meeting with their mice control, which was a sheet of plastic called Pre-bated Super Catch Master - the little guy was still alive but unable to get unstuck from it so would of just died a slow death, we put it out of its misery after not being able to free him either :( Probably wouldn't go back sadly, I had been really looking forward to the stay.

Heritage building, great location

Posted May 16, 2015
Pros: Location, ambience
Location: Walk English Bay, Stanley Park, Robson Street about 6 blocks
The Sylvia is a 100 year old converted apartment building right on English Bay. The Ivy covered building has charm inside including a dial above the elevator showing the current floor. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. Downstairs is the restaurant and bar; our only meal breakfast was very good. With slightly more than 100 rooms, service is personal. The location is less than 3 blocks to Stanley Park, 50 steps to English Bay, and one block to Denman Street and a host of wonderful small restaurants. It will be where we stay on our next trip to Vancouver.
