“Disappointing, get away”

Disappointing experience: - booked (and payed) 2 rooms by expedia. Gateway had only one room booked - swimming pool was out of order for (planned) reconstructions, no advance notice. The workers in the pool and the lady of the reception told it was planned, the duty manager tried to tell us that it was unexpectedly, curiously. - safe with our valuable content didn't open by defect, have to call three time before somebody shows up (nearly two ours later) - got a wake up call at 05.15: "wrong room, sorry" - got a room with a connectingdoor. Neighbors did like to watch tv, late night .. Could literally hear everything, very noisy. Kids coudn't sleep. Had to ask to switch off the tv. and oh yeah, no welcome drink Not a 5 star experience,

“Tranquil Oasis in busy city”

This was a lovely hotel with exceptional service. I didn't give "comfort of your room" 5 stars because the air conditioner seemed to struggle a bit, but it wasn't that bad. Staff were very friendly, restaurant had great food. Their upscale restaurant, Varuna, had the best Indian food we've tried after visiting India many times. The pool was very clean and it was genuinely an incredible escape from the extremely busy and dirty streets of Varanasi. It was a 15 minute taxi ride from the Ganges and the old city, but we were happy to be away from it all at the end of the day. If you are visiting Varanasi, this is the hotel you want to stay in!

Area recommendations

Make sure you book transportation from the airport directly with the hotel as many taxis try to take you to the hotel they want, not the hotel you booked. We'd also recommend getting a taxi and/or a guide to take you through the back streets as it's easy to get lost. The boats do not run on the Ganges in Monsoon due to strong currents. You also cannot walk along Ganges in Monsoon because tide is too high, so you need to amble through back streets to see different ghats,that is why guide is useful.

“Real five star - people and services”

My work requires frequent international traveling. My experience at the Gateway Hotel Ganges has been the best. I would look for Taj hotels where ever I can. The response to any concerns, attention to details, personalized care among other things is fantastic. Beyond doubt, Gateway Hotel Ganges is a real Five Star!

“Great hotel in Varanasi”

The Gateway Hotel is a great place to stay in Varanasi. Room, restaurants, service, were all top quality in every respect. One of the high points of our visit to India.

Area recommendations

The scene along the Ganges and the inner city are not to be missed, but of course that is why we are all there in the first place.
