Home Away From Home

Posted Jul 21, 2015
Pros: The service, the decor, the food, the location. Also, the hotel was very quiet at night. There were no street noises. Perfect.
Cons: The weather was quite hot while we were there and the air conditioning in the room could not quite handle it. The AC needs and update.
Location: The location was perfect. Easy to reach by car as it sits just inside a city gate. All of the sights and restaurants are an easy walk.
My daughter and I stayed at Hotel d'Europe for five nights and used it as a base to explore Provence. Every evening upon returning to the hotel we kept saying we felt like we were home! The staff was so friendly and so eager to help us, from parking our car, carrying our purchases to the room, serving us breakfast and drinks under the canopy of the most gorgeous tree they have in their garden to bringing us as many fresh towels as we wanted. One night, after returning from a vineyard tour, rather than lending us a bottle opener for the wine we purchased, the bartender actually came up to our room, opened our wine and poured and served us!! All with a big smile!

Old Grand Dame of a place needing some nips & tuck

Posted Jun 27, 2015
Pros: Location was great and outside common courtyard was cool.
Cons: Most of the decorations, carpeting, wall paper, beds, bedding, bathrooms all need modernization.
Staff is just o k, not the most helpful, place is tired with older carpets in halls & rooms, rooms are also tired needing upgrading. Not a 5 star hotel to ur standards, maybe a 4 star at best. The lobby, restaurant, outside courtyard dining/cocktail area and small bar area are all very nice, it's just the rest of the hotel which is very dated. Our outside terrace had astro turf on it and looked into the inner courtyard where only the staff passes thru for their breaks. Only no coffee maker in room so had to order room service for ones morning coffee which is a pain. It was a good location and very neat to walk they outer courtyard and guests at the tables to get into main doorway and lobby.

Old style European hotel

Posted May 25, 2015
Pros: Everything.
Location: Historic Avignon with papal palace etc. Convenient base to visit other nearby locations (Arles, Marseilles, Orange, Aix.
Great old style hotel with true French character. Makes modern hotels seem very boring. Great furnishings, wonderful staff (Lisa was very helpful), good breakfast.

The Jewel in the Crown

Posted May 23, 2015
Pros: Everything
Cons: The hotel continues its programme of refurbishment of bedrooms and suites.
Location: A stone's throw from le Pont de Benezet, le Palais des Papes, the quirky shopping district of Rue Joseph Vernet, and the tucked-away restaurant EAT.
If I ever were to move to the beautiful city of Avignon, I would live at l'Hotel de l'Europe. I have a penchant for historical properties but the way l'Europe has been modernised to its present comfort is extremely compelling. A ferocious attention to detail, combined with a sprinkle of humour, make it what I consider to be one of the most charming, elegant, stylish hotel in the world with a relaxed and inclusive ambiance. This is pure and simple old-fashioned hostellerie for intrepid travellers who will know how to enjoy capturing the savoir-vivre of the establishment. But it is the ginormous bunch of exotic roses, hand-picked by an anterior owner of l'Europe, proudly welcoming us on the day on our arrival which set the tone of our visit : they wilted ever so gently over the course of our three-day stay, fading in the glow of the morning and evening sunlight, as if witnessing the passing of time at a moment where time stayed still.

すごく素敵だった

Posted May 16, 2015
Pros: 内装のセンスがよい
Cons:
