Smack in the middle of Avignon, parking offsite

Posted Jun 17, 2015
Pros: Central location
After a terrible driving experience in the tiny TINY maze-like streets of Avignon, we found the hotel. It is right in the middle of Avignon and well located if you want to stay within the city walls. The Palais du Papes is two minutes walking distance, and the city center is just outside the hotel entrance. BUT, parking is offsite, which we didn't know, and an additional fee, which we also didn't know. This was an unpleasant surprise. Our first room smelled like old cigarettes and mold. The staff changed our room, so the second room only smelled little moldy, but the building is old in an ancient city, sooooo a scented candle and the fan helped. The room was clean, quiet, and large (by European standards). Our room faced a quiet side street, and we heard church bells until early evening, which was nice. There was an old church right outside the window, which was pretty to look at. The next time we go to Avignon, we will stay at a hotel outside the city walls, which have easy to access, have easier parking, and the walk into the city is about five-ten minutes, very close and easy access. The hotel overall was ok. For a REAL treat, go to the restaurant right next to the Plais du Papes, Christian Etienne. It is incredible. The location can't be beat, but beyond that, the food is AMAZING and innovative. Overall, Avignon can be seen and enjoyed in about a day or two.

Great location in a wonderful city

Posted Jun 8, 2015
Pros: location helpful staff that spoke good English
Cons: size of room, price of breakfast
Location: Ancient sites, historical monuments, good restaurants
Convenient to Avignon. Hotel staff helpful in arranging tour. Very small room, somewhat helped by lounge to sit in. Breakfast expensive. Go to nearby restaurants for half the price.

Good option for shorter stay

Posted Jun 3, 2015
Pros: Staff
Fairly central location with extremely helpful and courteous staff. My initial room, a single with a double bed, was so tiny, my suitcase wouldn't fit. The staff was super friendly and put me into a slightly larger (though still small) room for a small additional charge. Other things were very favorable. Good Wifi, good air conditioning, TV with several channels in English.

Well Located but tired little gem

Posted May 25, 2015
Pros: Location was great.
Cons: Needs updating.
Location: You name it, it is all within easy walking distance.
Upon arrival reception was pleasant and courteous. We were early so they offered to store our luggage until our room was ready. This Hotel is very centrally located within 100 or so steps to one of the main squares with a multitude of cafe's and restaurants, however was relatively quiet. Our only real disappointment was our room. That's were the need to update became evident. The decor was very dated and overall showed wear and tear!

Ideal location in the city center

Just five minutes' walk from the papal palace and ten from the bridge of Avignon. Old-style hotel with excellent atmosphere and modern facilities. Hospitality-minded staff.

IN THE HEART OF THE OLD CITY

Posted May 7, 2015
PROS - Location within walking distance from Palais des Papes, Famed bridge and other attractions. Staff have a professional, welcoming & helpful demeanor without exception, reflecting a cross-the-board standard of the management of this small hotel chain. Breakfast is sound value served in a beautiful space with a good range of interesting foods and very cheery ladies (Merci!). The rooms are clean. CONS - The nature of the old town is stone buildings separated by narrow streets. The noise of cars and groups of jovial pedestrians is thus amplified to EXTREMELY LOUD levels. Also, in these old remodeled buildings, some of the rooms are small. Room 106 typified both of these negatives. Perhaps by checking-in early, one can choose a better room ? Finally, in our room, and in other areas of the first floor, we could detect an unpleasant septic gas smell. The presence of a pipe running through the cupboard of our room excited our suspicions as to the nature of the smell.

Great stay

Posted Apr 29, 2015
Pros: Great location, right on the main square. Clean and comfortable.
Cons: Old building, so only so many improvements can be made. Rooms could be bigger, more balconies, cheaper breakfasts.
Location: Right in the heart of the city. Ample restaurants and cafes in the square below. Well placed for the Palais de Papes and the St. Benezet bridge.
We had a lovely week here. The room was clean, comfortable and well appointed. The staff were friendly and helpful. We didn't pay for breakfast (too expensive), so I can't say if it was good or not! Our room was on the top floor, which reduced the noise from the square below.
