Character hotel in great locationPosted Nov 30, 2013
Pros: Good location, comfortable, friendly staff
Cons: Nothing major, we went at a quiet time, I expect more bustle in high season
Location: In the old walled city but close to the train station for local excursions to Nimes etc, which have very well preserved Roman remains.
We arrived by taxi, might not be easy for independent travellers to find but in an excellent location, about 100m off the main road so quiet, just inside the gates of the old walls, 5 mins walk to the station: good for excursions to other places such as Nimes, 5 mins walk to the main square and the Palace de Papes and bridge. A character building, originally a monastery then a hospital, the restaurant is in the old Cloisters but our room was in a new annexe that was clearly new rather than fake old. There are plenty of restaurants in Avignon but the hotel restaurant is also very good, ideal for a first day or if you have spent the day on an excursion. Good buffet breakfast, attentive staff.

Characterful hotelPosted Nov 5, 2013
Pros: Character; light airy roo, lovely dinner menu, helpful staff
Location: The hotel is walking distance to the major attractions and close to restaurants and also to the "local" railway station and tourist office
Loved our stay at Hotel Le Cloitre - the room overlooking the courtyard was comfortable and very pleasant and light. We ate in the restaurant several nights and the food was really good and the venue so charming. Helpful staff. Great location in the old city.

Stay in new wingPosted Sep 24, 2013
Old abbey room was not a good experience. Bed hard pillows harder. Moved to new wing for 2nd night over looking a garden. Liked it. Everything better. Recommend this hotel IF staying in that wing.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Hotel room was very comfortable, staff polte and helpful. We did no eat in the restaurant at the hotel as there is so much choice in Avignon. We loved relaxing on the roof terrace in he afternoon. Overall a very pleasant stay and will definitely recommend.

HISTORIC HOTELPosted Sep 1, 2013
Pros: Large room ( the old part of hotel) good size bathroom. Beautiful historical building.Fridge in room we could use for wine/cheese etc.
Cons: We stayed 7 nights and our sheets wernt changed! Staff functional but not helpful.
Location: Everything within walking distance, great restaurants.
Just returned from our stay. Room was perfect, spacious with a lovely view of the courtyard. On the last day we discovered beautiful old chapel inside the hotel, this was not mentioned by the staff? I read a review before I visited which said that so much more could be done with the hotel ~ I totally agree with this...such a shame ! On arrival sorted the usual check in..passports/bank card. on day 5 received a phone call to our room to request that we went to reception and paid up the room bill, 2 days before departure. The staff could not give me a reasonable explanation for this ! Quite embarrassing !

We stayed in the older section of the hotel with a room facing the court yard that was very large with lots of character (stone walls, 14 ft ceilings, etc.). Although the room was clean and in good shape, the bed was a little too soft (sagged in the middle).
