Location on ExpediaPosted Nov 24, 2013
Pros: It was good
This hotel was booked for it's closeness to the airport.! Expedia said it was just less than 11 miles from the Airport. The trouble with this distance was we reckon it was an "as the crow flies" distance which was rather misleading. It took nearly an hour for the taxi to drive to the hotel from the Airport and cost many euros.

Great little rural placePosted Jul 31, 2013 on Hotels.com
It was wonderful for peace and quiet. Everything is either up or down the mountain from there. If you want to hike, it is a great location. The little pool and gardens are so cute. We loved the breakfast! The loft is good for kids or smaller people. The Roses restaurant/bar up the hill is very good. The small town is real life... no tourists. WE LOVED IT! group of 6

Las Calas is truly ruralPosted Oct 11, 2011 on Hotels.com
The staff was very helpful and kind. The rooms were clean and of a interesting decor but very nice.Beautiful gardens and good but home type cooking. This is not a hotel for people who are looking for nightlife. However if you want the true hiking and anda taste of regular life on Gran Canaria this is a great place to start.I would recommend a car and good driving skills as roads are quite narrow.

great hotelPosted May 1, 2011 on Hotels.com
privately operated hotel. each guest is treated like royalty. secluded location away from mass tourism. quiet. clean. great homemade dinner for a great price. surrounding mountains are beautiful. this was my favorite hotel on Gran Canaria. I will absolutely stay here again on my next visit to Gran Canaria. It is best to rent a car if you are staying here, because the hotel is in a rather secluded area. however that is the charm of this place.

Not what we expectedPosted Apr 19, 2009
We expected a relaxing hotel in nice country surroundings, however this hotel was no more than an average B&B with very little to do in the surrounding area. The rooms and gardens were not as pretty as they looked in the photos and the food was basic. Alright for an overnight stay if you are on a walking trip but not for a long holiday.

Nice but quiet place for a walking holiday basePosted Apr 1, 2009
The hotel is unusual and an interesting place to stay. The staff were friendly and helpful. It has beautiful views of the mountains - great to look at as you eat breakfast. However, the village is some way from the nearest town - San Mateo. So strolling out for an evening meal is not an easy option. You can eat in but the food is rather pricey for what you get. Great base for a walking holiday but a car, if not essential, is pretty handy to get you out and about. Get a map locating the hotel before you go. It wasn't easy to find in the dark. We were there at the end of March. Be aware that it is fairly cool at this altitude - probably 10 degrees less than at the coast. Up at the top of the mountains it was about 4C.

small oasisPosted Mar 12, 2007
Our room was comfortable with plenty of hot water. Well situated for the mountain scenery of Grand Canary. 1.times of meals will not suit everyone. Breakfast 9 to 11, dinner at dusk. 2.we were never told the cost of dinner.if your spanish is not good you will be unable to ask. 3.breakfast was a good cold buffet, but there was no choice at dinner and no info in advance about the food unless you were able to ask. Dinner was simple,eg. soup,a casserole and dessert, say, ice cream. We found the dinners tasty. 4.For dinner, it was necessary to book by no later than breakfast on the relevant day.It was not always easy to find other places to eat if you failed to do so. 2 bars serving food within walking distance and other restaurants within 10 mins. drive, but no info. about when these were open. 5.little info. at hotel about the area and facilities. It proved difficult to find this elsewhere in late Feb 6.Although there was a sitting room for guests the bar was never open and it was not an appealing place to sit after dinner. The quibbles were minor issues for us. A small, quiet, comfortable rural hotel run by friendly people. Good base for exploring the amazing landscape.

could be so good, but .....Posted Feb 5, 2006
This hotel is really lovely but it is up at 1000m & and the rooms can be very cold due to a reluctance to put on the heating during winter months; the beds therefore feel damp if the room has not been used for a while and need airing before guests arrive. When you have been there 24hrs it soon warms up. The 'salon' has heating and a fire - unfortunately guests have to turn up the radiator and light the fire so it's not very inviting. The hotel must be wonderful in warmer weather but as a location for a winter break the owner is missing a great opportunity...... Quite a few guests told her so this last week and she accepted the criticism and promised to do better.
