“Exceptionally good.”

For the price of the room Hotel Abbazia is an exceptional value. Although the room was small by American standards it was modernly appointed and clean. The hotel's lounge was quite spacious and comfortable. It also provides a nice place for an evening drink at the bar. In the mornings the Abbazia provides a very healthful and ample breakfast setting which is included in the room price. The was staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Located near the Grand Canal and train station makes makes sightseeing very easy as well as for entering/exiting the city.

Area recommendations
If possible see it all!
When to go
Definitely stay at the Hotel Abbazia when in Venice.

“Very Close to Acropolis”

Athens public transportation was on strike. Hotel was accomidating at getting transportation, though very pricey. Nice Breakfast included made for a good start to the day. The room was a room, bed very stiff though after traveling through Europe seems to be a theme.

“Excellent location”

Situated just by the train and bus station. You'll probably pass it the first time cuz it's just down some alley way. Very nice rooms with good character. Service was exceptional. It did rain one night but no big deal the hotel offers umbrellas. Friends of ours had to stay at the hotel just next to us and their staff was terrible and rude. Breakfast was great we ate out in the gardens it was beautiful. Can't wait to go back.

Area recommendations
We got lost for hours in the city and it was probably the best part of the trip. You can rent a boat of your own for 25 euros an hr. I def recommend it if u think u can drive the boat.
What to pack
Pack a long sleeve shirt or light jacket cuz it does cool down at night.

“Convenient location”

Older hotel, but updated. Easy walk to train station and water bus. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms are small, but adequate. Good breakfast. Would stay there again.

Getting around
Buy a pass for the water bus; it's convenient and inexpensive (18 Euros for 24 hours)--unlike the water taxis and gondolas, which cost an arm and a leg (75-100 Euros).

“Treated like family”

I can't say enough about the staff at the Hotel Abbrazia. We found the location to be perfect for both arriving from the airport and the ability to use the rail service which was right next door. While we were staying at the Hotel Abbrazia, my wifes Mother passed away. We had some issues with calling back to the States for info. The desk staff could not have been any nicer. They were compassionate and helpfull. I felt more like I was staying in someones home instead of a hotel. We were traveling in a group of 8 friends and relatives. Every afternoon we would return to the hotel and enjoy the court yard with little wine and cheese and make our evening plans. The morning breakfast buffet was very good. They provide a large variety of breakfast items and you don't start your day hungry, thats for sure. Because of the lacation and mainly because of the Staff, I would recommend this hotel to anyone. The rooms are slightly on the small side, but we had everything we needed. Room was clean and beds were comfortable. Too much to do around hotel and throughout Venice to worry about room size.

Area recommendations
I think that anyone visiting Venice should try to get to each of the sections of Venice. Each area has there own churches and museums to see. Of course a trip to Venice has to include a visit to St. Marks.
When to go
Our trip was the end of March. I would recommend this time of year. We were in short sleave shirts all day and light jacket or sweater at night.

“Will stay here again.”

I loved this hotel. As a solo traveler I was impressed with the location, condition of the hotel and the exceptional service of all the hotel staff. Location: close to the main bus terminus and the train station. No need to drag your luggage all over Venice. Vaporetto stops located mere steps away. Hotel: Very clean and cozy - it is a former monastery. Church bells in the morning are lovely. I had a single room that was quite roomy. Very clean, lots of fluffy towels, comfy bed. Breakfast: very good. I am still dreaming about the pastries, especially the chocolate croissants. Lots of variety - meats, cheeses, breads, yogurt, coffee drinks and fresh fruits. 2 laptops are located in the lobby to check e-mail, etc. (No printer) Service: exceptional by all the staff - most notably the front desk staff who were always cheerful and helpful.

Area recommendations
Make it a point to go to the island of Burano by vaporetto. The island is known for lace making - but the real treat is the brightly colored houses - pinks, greens, purples, blues - you can't take a bad photo here. Closer to the hotel, try eating at the BREK restaurant. Upon exiting the hotel, walk to the main street, make a left and the restaurant is on the left. The front part of the restaurant has sandwiches and drinks. Go further back and you will find hot meals, large salads and a good selection of wine to have with your meals. The prices are very good - and the food is like home cooking. Plenty of gelato shops - don't worry about calories, you will do plenty of walking in Venice.
What to pack
Packing: take comfortable shoes - you will do plenty of walking. Take less clothes - the ideal is to take one rolling suitcase.

“Great location, pleasant experience all around”

Hotel Abbazia is very close to the train station, the Piazzale Roma where the buses and taxis drop off, the two main vaporetto launches (waterbus), and two of the 4 bridges that cross the Grand Canal. They offered a great selection for breakfast. Our room was nice, clean, spacious for Europe, and a shower door is always a bonus. There's not much room inside the shower stall, but a door or curtain is more important to me. The free wifi always worked for us, and from our room instead of in the lobby. We would definitely stay there again and will recommend it to others. The location really couldn't be beat, especially if you like to walk, or if you are dragging luggage from the bus or boat.

Area recommendations
If you are able to walk, just get out and walk in Venice. It's an island, you won't get completely lost. The map given to us at the hotel was very helpful. We had downloaded audioguides for St. Mark's Square, the Basilica, the Grand Canal, and the Frari Church. We intended to take the vaporetto that travelled up and down the Grand Canal, but we goofed and wound up on one that went around the outside of the main island, which was still a nice viewpoint. I think we were supposed to get off at a certain location, but we didn't and rode back to where we started. We ate in restaurants that we found whenever we got hungry, and the food was good. We walked through parts of most of the neighborhoods, we didn't find a favorite, we did not leave the main island of Venice. There weren't a lot of attractions unless you like museums and churches. We only went inside the Frari Church but enjoyed our audioguide. We flew into Venice, then took the ATVO bus to Piazzale Roma (3 Euro each). The vaporetto ride was 6.50 Euro each for 75 minutes or so. Venice is unique in it's sights and terrain. If I go again, I'll ride a boat out to Murano and Burano, and explore the other islands as well. And at least step inside St. Mark's Basilica. It was extremely crowded when we walked into the square.
What to pack
We were in Venice (and Rome) in early March, it was windy and in the 40's and 50's F, bring a warm jacket or coat, layers of shirts and UnderArmor-type garments, and GLOVES. A hat would have been nice, or ear muffs or a head-wrap of some type to protect the ears.
