“Great Place to Stay in Venice”

The hotel is charming, boutique like, and very comfortable. They hotel staff were very friendly, polite, and caring. The rooms are very clean and well kept considering everything in Venice is ancient. We had a pleasant stay and are glad Hotel Canal Grande is a safe choice to go with considering the expense of a Venice overnight stay and the age of buildings there.

“A awesome hotel”

This hotel was amazing. The service impeccable, staff incredible and the room was quite, contented and downright amazing. We requested an early arrival since we knew that we were arriving by sleeper train early in the morning so when we arrived at 6 am, they had a room waiting for us. We stayed in a new section of the hotel just slightly down from the main doors where the rooms were away from the water however we were very happy with the room. The TV was in the mirror which was kind of innovative for Venice. The city, hotel and people of Venice were great and a must see when in Italy. It’s real close to the train station, easy access to all Venice has to offer, good breakfast in the morning and it has wireless internet service. Just a wonderful place to stay while in Venice.

“End of Greek Isles Cruise Stop-over”

This hotel was located at the Northwest end of the Grand Canal and conveniently located next to a bridge (P. Te Scalizi) crossing the Grand Canal (close proximity to the train station and about 1/2 mile to the main cruise ship port). It was also close to the "mass transit" boat station (Riva di Biasio) that transports people up and down the Grand Canal for reasonable fare. The staff spoke very good English and were very service oriented. The breakfast that was included in the price had a lot of variety and was top quality. The room we were provided was very clean, had a good size bathroom (including bidet) and the bed was comfortable. The flat screen TV had a variety of channels and two were in English (BBC and CNN). Overall, we were extremely satisfied with this Hotel. At checkout, there was a new City tax of 8 Euros that was added to the bill that had to be paid in cash.

Area recommendations
This city is made for walking (although it is a little difficult to navigate the multiple twists and turns without a good map) and is a great place to snap photographs along the way. It is good to watch for "clues" (usually posted overhead at jogs in the pathway pointing the way... usually a major city characteristic like the Rialto Bridge) to help you meander through the maze. If you have a destination in mind, the actual pathway to get there can be as interesting as the final destination. I always felt safe, even though some of the pathways narrow down and feel "remote and isolated". After a few more turns, you pop back into a nice square. One thing that I was not prepared for was the graffiti that defaced a lot of beautiful old buildings. Our Hotel staff set up a complimentary water taxi ride to Murano Island where we toured the Signoretti Venetian Glass Center where we were able to watch glass blowing and glass shaping artisans at work. The tour ended in the showroom which was like viewing a glass artwork museum with thousands of pieces. Forewarning, the glass for sale is quite expensive (not the average trinket).
Getting around
Water taxis are very expensive but are the most convenient way to get around. The ride from the Ship Port to our hotel was 80 Euros for about a 10 minute ride (less than 3/4 of a mile if we had walked) but it dropped us right at the hotel dock. The water taxi from our hotel to the airport was 110 Euros. This was about a 25 minute boat ride and again was the most efficient (and least hassle) way to get to the airport. After we got to the airport, I heard from another traveler that the trains were not running that day because the workers were on an brief "work stoppage" over some labor issue for that day. It is advisable to check with your hotel staff to make sure whatever means of chosen transportation is viable for that day. Water taxis operate on cash, so plan to have enough Euros at the end of your stay to get to your final point of departure.

“Will stay here again”

Lovely Hotel, walking distance from the train station. The front desk is extremely helpful. Our room was beautiful, and although it didn't have a view of the canal, the hotel has a small deck from the lobby with a couple of tables to enjoy breakfast or a drink while watching all of the activity on the Grand Canal. The water taxi stop is just a block away, so walking or taking the taxi is easy.

Area recommendations
This is convenient, across the canal and down a few hundred meters from the train station. The canal is busy here which is fun to observe, but otherwise its a quiet area and very peaceful.

“Great location close to the train, knowledgeable, friendly staff, close to the water taxi stops”

The hotel interior is beautiful. The location is close to the train station and the water taxi stops. The management personnel is knowledgeable and friendly. The hotel is small with 20 rooms, which keeps the tour group crowds away. I would go back to Venice and stay at the HOTEL CANAL GRANDE.

When to go
The crowds were manageable during the first week of October. Bring a jacket to Venice, it was cool and windy. No rain. Get to St. Mark's square early. Buy all tickets on-line in advance for museums and trains. Georgio's Restaurant close to the Giorgie Hotel is the best. Find it and ask for Dario, the owner.
Must see
Must see the open air market at Rialto Bridge. Go early, then go direct to St. Mark's. The church opens at 10:00 and be sure to pay the extra five euros to go up the steep stairs to the balcony, and then take the elevator up to the top of the bell tower across the square.
Dining
Ask the hotel for advice. Everything is a tourist spot, but there are some nice places if you want to seek them out, pay a little more and sit to relax.

“Great hotel and location”

We stayed at the Hotel Canal Grande in Venice August 27th through the 29th, 2011. We stayed after reading reviews on trip advisor. We were very happy with our choice. The location is not close to the very touristy area of St. Marks Square but is in a much nicer quieter area. It is still easy to get around by walking or taking the water bus. There are still plenty of shops and restaurants across the street but the noise and crowds are not right by the hotel. The hotel is also close to the bus terminal which was convenient when we were headed to the airport. We could walk there and the bus cost $5 and took you straight to the airport. Private water taxi's cost about $100. The hotel is beautiful, right on the water and the staff was very, very nice. The only complaint i had was a hard bed. Otherwise, it was a perfect choice for us. We would highly recommend the Hotel Canal Grande.

Area recommendations
We stayed in Santa Croce which was a nice area, not too touristy, very quiet.
Dining
We ate at La Rosa Dei Venti which was a very authentic restaurant frequented by locals. Not too touristy like most of the restaurants on the main strips. Waiters not too fluent in english but we got by and the food was great!

“Enjoyed our stay in Venice”

Concierge was very welcoming and always available for any needs we had. The room was very clean and was close to the train station so when we had to leave, it was a short walk over. Only thing I'd say is the price is a bit high, but then I think anywhere in Venice is going to be expensive!

“Great customer service!”

I cannot say enough about the staff at this hotel. My wife and I stayed for eight nights and were truly impressed with how courteous and helpful Gianni, Giovanna and the entire staff were. Before arriving they answered multiple questions via e-mail about what to see and how to get there. While there they made excellent suggestions for places to eat, assisted us with any questions about the museums or travel outside of the City and alway had a smile on their face. Would go back and stay at this hotel in a heartbeat.

“Loved this hotel”

Beautiful hotel. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. I would suggest a water taxi in getting there though. It will be so much easier, they drop you off in front of the hotel. I think the hotel would be a challenge to find taking a reg taxi or bus. Plus you will do a lot of walking lugging your suitcase behind you. There are no cars in Venice, (awesome) so a taxi would drop you at a parking lot, and you will walk the maze to the hotel. Venice is so awesome we loved our visit there. Our room was very comfortable, comfortable bed, we slept well. The room was very clean and nice. The room was beautiful and had free wifi, you just have to get a password from the desk. We really enjoyed our stay.

Area recommendations
We had lunch across the canal from the hotel. Good service and food, very enjoyable. Saint Marco Square is within walking distance but you can take a water bus if you prefer. We walked everywhere in Venice but we don't mind walking.
