Excellent hotel, friendly and very welcoming staffPosted May 5, 2015
We were greeted on the boat landing by a very friendly and courteous member of staff, shown to reception and checked into the hotel with ease and efficiency. Our room had wonderful views of the Grand Canal. The decor and cleanliness of our room and bathroom was excellent. The room is in keeping of a traditional and elegant Venetian bedroom, the bathroom had all the modern facilities of today, the best of both worlds. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the staff, service, location was excellent .

Lovely little hotelPosted May 5, 2015
Location: It's about 20 mins (if you don't get lost) to San Marco... but that isn't a bad thing. It 'forces' you to explore all of Venice
Very welcoming and friendly staff - always on reception to help and to give you advise! Would definitely stay here again

Birthday trip to VenicePosted Apr 26, 2015
Pros: Excellent location, clean interior, excellent staff, spacious room.
Location: On Grand Canal, so water taxi from airport to the front door. Also close to train and bus stations. 45 min walk to St Marks (loads to see on the way)
Made a late booking for my birthday. Excellent time of year to go as much cheaper than in the holiday season and the queues are non existent, plus no canal smell. We didn't have to queue for anything and had several places to ourselves. I would be careful when you book your hotel and make sure that you can access it easily as some that we looked at are really tucked away and would have involved lugging your suitcase over bridges etc. We were lucky with the weather as it was dry and sunny (t-shirt weather on Murano) and if it had been raining are trip would naturally been different. For the first time ever we planned an itinerary as there is so much to do and you really need to plan what you want to do. Think twice about getting a 2/3 day water pass as we ended up walking nearly everywhere and could have got away without one (depends if you like walking).

very far from st marco squarePosted Apr 19, 2015
Pros: Overlooking canal patio
Cons: front desk needs to help guests in navigating venice better.
This hotel is right on the water, but very far from st. marco square. Nice little patio to have breakfast on while watching the activities on water. The front desk needs to help guests navigate Venice better. It is impossible to walk back to the hotel from an outing because Venice is a giant maze and most of the streets have no names posted on buildings so maps don't work. They need to tell people what transportation (water taxi, water shuttle) to take and where to get off. We learned it the hard way. If you want to a water view room, you need to make sure your booking reflects that cos not all their rooms overseeing water and those rooms cost more.

Returning guestsPosted Apr 14, 2015
Pros: Everything was wonderful
Cons: I can't think of anything that could be improved.
Location: This is a great location: you can pretty much get a direct ACTV boat to any of the Venetian islands from the bridge.
We returned to this hotel after a wonderful visit last spring. We were not disappointed this year, apart from the fact that some of the lovely staff from last year seem to have moved on. One of the staff recognised us, which is quite surprising bearing in mind how many guests they must see in a year. When we mentioned to the receptionist that we didn't need to be shown around as we had visited last year he immediately offered us an upgraded room and a free welcome cocktail, which was a lovely and unexpected bonus. We have only ever booked the cheapest room there, and you still feel like you're living in a Venetian palace. The continental breakfast is lovely, the only problem is that much as you'd like to try, it would be impossible to try everything available.

An absolute gem of a hotelPosted Apr 8, 2015
Pros: Location, grand decor, friendly and helpful staff
Cons: Tea/Coffee facilities in the room
Location: Close to the bus and rail stations with a water bus stop nearby.
We stayed at Hotel Canal Grande over Easter. I booked a Prestige Double and was not disappointed at all with our allocated room "Dogeressa", a double aspect room overlooking the grand canal. The hotel is well located with a water bus stop within minutes walk. Using the bus you can get anywhere with ease or you can choose to walk, the main sites are well sign posted and you'll really experience the labyrinthine nature of venice when walking. The staff at the hotel are amazingly friendly and simply couldn't do enough for us. I had mentioned that it was my wife's birthday during our stay and she was delighted to find a cake in our room on the day with a personal note wishing her a happy birthday. My only suggestion for improvement would be (and it's a real minor point) is that it would be nice to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room. I am certain we will return to Venice one day and when we do, we'll be staying at Hotel Canal Grande.
