Excellent location and good pricePosted Aug 25, 2013 on Hotels.com
Booked last minute for a relatively low price considering it was the august bank holidays. Excellent location and perfectly decent room. We had a balcony over the canal which was lovely if a little noisy in the mornings.

Wonderful location and large roomsPosted Aug 2, 2013 on Hotels.com
Hotel Caneva is a great hostel if you are looking for a cheap way to stay in Venice. It is located right in the heart of the island. It is a 4 minute walk to San Marco and 30 seconds from the Rialto bridge. My husband and I booked a 3 person room (even though it was just us using it) and it was very spacious. The high ceilings made it seem even larger. It did not have AC but they privded a powerful fan the helped us beat the heat. There were several bathrooms in our hallway so we never had to wait to use the toilet or shower. The Wifi was only accessible in the breakfast area but they didn't mind if you just sat in there to use it. I would suggest booking this place if you're on budget!

Ideal location, shame about the restPosted Oct 24, 2012
Pros: nice views/ok decor
Cons: staff, uncomfortable beds
Location: The hotel was very easy to find by using the directions on Hotel Caneva's website, even when we arrived in the dark at 11pm. It is in the perfect location, 1 minute away from Rialto bridge (where the river taxi stops). It's also a 5-10 minute walk from San Marco and Cannareggio. Hotel Staff: When we arrived, the man on reception was less than helpful. He didn't crack a smile once during our entire stay. However, there was one friendly, helpful member of staff called Stefano. Breakfast: WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! We had the hotel breakfast once. It is meant to be on from 7-10.30, however when we sat down at 9.30, the maids started packing it all away before we got a chance to eat! As we had already poured a coffee, the maids took our room number to charge for breakfast, so we ended up paying 5 euros each for a cup of machine made coffee!! Room Standard: On first look, the bedroom seems nice, quite spacious & had huge windows/shutters that looked out onto the canal below, which was lovely to see the Gondalas first thing in the morning. However, the 'double' bed was actually 2 singles put together so it had a gap in the middle which was really uncomfortable. The blankets are also too thin so we were freezing, even using the spare blanket. The passing boats at night are also quite loud so I kept waking up at 4am. We paid extra for a private bathroom, which turned out to be a tiny shower cubicle & toilet, 1 metre long with hard, rough towels.

Good location - building very old and in need of a structural engineer!Posted Aug 12, 2011
We visited in June 2011, Venice is very beautiful and the location of this hotel is very central. We stayed 2 nights and the hotel met our needs, we slept there and had breakfast there but spent the entire day and evening in Venice, exploring and having fun - so our time there was limited to showering (very small shower), sleeping and eating breakfast...this was fine for a 1 star hotel. The only 3 major concerns that I had were: 1. I was extremely worried that our floor would fall through to the front desk below, because there is an extremely large crack in the floor that they unsuccessfully covered with a carpet. 2. There was a garbage recycling company next to the hotel, so we were awaken by the noise of this company in the very early hours, and there was a lot of boat engine noises through the night. 3. The hotel is extremely hard to find. I had to rely on the assistance of local store owners to help me find the hotel. TIP: If you find the Disney Store, go the the right alley and keep walking - it's a 1 minute walk from the Disney Store.
