“Solid Hotel”

the hotel's location is a somewhat out of the way... rooms are big and comfortable... hotel can use a little more maintenance... nevertheless, a solid hotel overall

“Luxurious room”

This is quite a luxurious and elegant hotel. Room was exceptionally large and nicely furnished. Breakfast was fabulous! Hotel staff were very efficient and courteous. San Mark's Square easily reached via complementary boat shuttle so this was not a problem staying at the Lido and avoiding the masses.

“hot, no AC, extremely expensive water”

The hotel is located on the lido, on a nice beach, great old world charm. The AC did not work during my stay from may 20 to 25, rooms were very hot, and the water in the fridge very expensive, I nneded at least two bottles a night to stay hydrated, over 10 euros... Mosquitoes were present too, I did not sleep well in this hotel. There was a bar restaurant on the terrace, selling 20 euro salads, essentialy a lettuce with an egg on top, and 10 euros for a beer or glass of wine, outrageous, unfortunately not a lot of dining options in the neighborhood, best is to take advantage of the hotel's great water shuttle service to go to venice for dinner.

“The Excelsior hotel was perfect from A - Z A beautiful Palace like hotel. GREAT BREAKFASTS”

Our one week vacation in Venice was perfect. The Excelsior Hotel made our stay perfect. A palace like hotel, with a gracious & accommodating staff. Free Gourmet breakfast every morning. Free luxury water taxi back & forth to Venice. The town of Lido Beach was a charming & friendly town with many restaurants & shops.

Area recommendations
Although Lido beach has many small hotels & Apts. for rent. I would highly recommend the Excelsior. It is a great deal. Free Gourmet buffet breakfasts & free water taxi into Venice.
When to go
We were there from Oct. 2nd - 10th. It was the end of their season and so you didn't have the crowds. You couldn't go into the water but you could still walk on the beach. The weather was great. 73, 74 degrees every day. No rain.
Getting there
When you land at the Venice airport to get to Lido Beach be careful. Outside the airport you will find the window to buy a ticket to go on the Vaporetto (Public water transportation) It's 12 or 13 Euros. DO NOT take a water taxi. These small private boats will charge you 125 Euros (!) to get to Lido.
Getting around
Walk, walk, walk! Venice is a walking city. Helps to walk off all the calories from the fabulous food & wines. If you need to get off or on Venice always take the public Vaporettos instead of the water taxis. Unless of course you are staying at the Excelsior where they provide free water taxi service back & forth.
Shopping
When shopping in Venice, stay away from the San Marco Square area for shopping. Beautiful shops & you will be tempted. Price are very much inflated for the tourist. Cross over the Rialto bridge to the shops in the back. Restaurant & shops there are where the locals go. I bought 3 lg. leather handbags & 2 wallets. BEAUTIFUL! The same like in the stores near San Marco Square, but 3 times less.
Dining
In Venice. Cross over to the other side of the Rialto Bridge and eat at '"Alla Madonna" Restaurant. We ate there twice. Not a tourist trap. A locals restaurant. Simple, elegant, great food. Decent prices.

“"Lovin' the Lido"”

The October stay at the Hotel Excelsior Lido was exceptional. An Italian friend told me when we arrived that George Clooney and Elisabetta and the Jolie-Pitts had been among the recent celebrities who had stayed there during the Venice Film Fest in September. The entire time I was there, I felt like I was definitely living la dolce vita. The hotel staff was somewhat pretentious, but always helpful with questions. Just remember that if Vittorio tells you though that it's a ten-minute walk into the center of the Lido, that's the Italian way of saying you will need to add on another twenty or so minutes! I regret that we could not be there to see the summer activity on the island, and that it wasn't warm enough to swim and dine outside. We loved the convenience of being shuttled by boat to the mainland as well as the terminal and from the Westin back to the hotel. The only problem with the room was that one of the sinks in the bathroom had low water pressure, but since there was another, we only brought it to the attention of our concierge as we were checking out. Thanks to Expedia for making it possible to stay at such a beautiful place.

Area recommendations
I would recommend exploring the Lido center as well as the area around via Lepanto because it was casual, and the people were extremely friendly. The area is also picturesque and there are shops and local restaurants and cafes throughout. Many of the locals ride their bikes along quiet canaled streets, and i also saw groups of professional bikers pedaling along the promenade of beach cabanas. Several restaurants are within walking distance from the hotels. Beach life, Venetian style, in the off season... cooler but indeed charming!

“Excelisor”

This hotel is beautiful inside and out. It’s like going back in time. The service was great. We were greeted at the dock and walked into the hotel. After check-in (we came in early and they still checked us in) we were escorted to our room. The rooms are spacious but in my opinion in need of updating the furnishing and decor seem a bit dated. My only problem with the room was the bed was hard I had to sleep in the duvet (my husband did not have a problem with it). The room had a nice bathroom, good water pressure and the room was air conditioned. We upgraded to a room with an ocean view, which was worth it to see the ocean first thing in the morning. The breakfast buffet was really nice they had lots of fresh fruit, breads, cheese and hot items. We did not eat any other meals at the hotel because they were so expensive--a coke at the pool was 8 euro. They have a free water taxi into Venice every 30 minutes and they also had a shuttle to Murno (sp) the island with the glass factory. If you take that one they will take you on a tour of the factory with a pretty high pressure sales attempt after--it was kind of like a timeshare presentation. Overall I am glad we stayed on Lido instead of Venice it was not as hectic as Venice. The pool was beautiful and not overcrowded. In fact, when we went the resort was not crowded at all.

“One time experience”

The hotel was very expensive based on its reputation and location. It was somewhat of a faded beauty. Renting a cabana on the beach was going for mega Euros a day. Hotel itself was very pretty. Whole hotel was too warm, making sleeping difficult. Everyone on the staff was wonderful.

“Amazing hotel and location-- A MUST stay!”

The hotel and staff were AMAZING!!! We were celebrating our anniversary and they upgraded us to a suite with a balcony over the Adriatic Sea. They also provided complimentary fruit and champagne. The room was HUGE- especially for European standards. They offer a free water taxi to San Marco square every 1/2 hr- and that can't be beat! Breakfest was wonderful- and a very large variety... also included! Can't speak highly enough about this hotel- gorgeous!

Area recommendations
Highly recommend staying on Lido island at this hotel! You get the best of both... the free water taxi takes you into Venice- and yet, you can relax by the ocean breeze.

“great value for money”

the Excelsior offers a great value for money. Beautiful hotel, well kept for a 100+ years old property. Peaceful and away from the tourist crowds yet very easy to access center of venice by the regular launch shuttle from the Excelsior's own pier to St. Marks square. Will definitely prefer to stay there again when in venice
