On the Grand Canal.
Posted Jan 9, 2013
Pros: Hotel Metropole is a classic old Venician hotel. The staff was outstanding. The highlight was the staff's dinner recommendations.
Cons: The only negative was the drain in the shower. It was slow to drain. Then again. It is Venice.
Location: St Mark's square is near bye. Everything is an easy walk.
The experience was lovely. We planned to stay for 3 nights, but enjoyed the experience so much that we extended for another night.

A positive experience
Posted Jan 2, 2013
Pros: The breakfast.
Cons: The price, it was quite expensive, but being so close to the action you get what you pay for.
Location: Great if you want to be in the thick of the tourist crowds.
Very central hotel, close to San Marco Square. Breakfast was great, staff extremely pleasant. Our first room was very "busy", i.e. lots of heavy drapes, brocades, stairs to climb etc. We had a much nicer room on our second stay, bigger, small balcony, views of the Grand Canal.

One of the best value for money hotels in Venice
Posted Jan 12, 2013
Pros: Central location. excellent service and water transport services second to none.
Cons: Some street noise early morning
Location: Very central, close the the Bridge of Sighs and St Mark's Square.
We have stayed at the Metropole before and continue to find that it is one of the best value for money hotels in the centre of Venice. It's not inexpensive but compared to the more famous names if you can get an early booking or late booking discount it is well worth the money. The rooms are spacious if suffering from some street noise and the water transport facilities arguably the best in Venice. Food is good; bar service excellent with all staff doing their best for the client; not always the case in this city. We will definitely stay here again.

Not worth a five star rating at all
Posted Jan 10, 2013
Cons: Everything, did not even have complimentary bottle of water.
The staff were not caring at all and for a five star hotel, it was not worth the rating at all.

An outstanding value splurge!
Posted Jan 4, 2013
Pros: Character
Cons: Surprisingly sparse crowd. Suspect the neg critic review of the Met from 4 yrs ago is turning people off. My experience - everythings now WAY fixed.
Location: Couldn't be better. Easy in and out both by water bus and taxi, steps from Plaza San Marco (the 'front door' of Venice)
This hotel was a major factor in making our Venice stay a fantastic one! The dedicated dock from the airport is a great start, staff were friendly and accomodating and the hotel itself is dripping with decadent, authentic old-Venice character. All this with modern comforts subtly integrated in all the right places. One of the most memorable hotels I've ever stayed in. We even ate at the Met on our last night. Easily the best wine-pairing experience we've ever had (and we've done lots of these all over the world)! We were doubly amazed that such a good pairing was done exclusively with Italian wines. All in all a splurge - but one which left us feeling we acheived an outstanding deal at the end!

Just a great hotel
Posted Jan 3, 2013
Pros: The bar and staff were excellent.
Cons: Nothing
Location: Perfect location on the Grand Canal. A close walk to the tourist attractions but far enough away from the hussle and bussle
From the moment we stepped off the Water Taxi and straight into the hotel I knew this was going to be a special place. The Oriental room and the bar on the ground level are really amazing places to relax. Walk up the stairs to your room and look at the various antique themes. Unfortunately the garden was not open due to time of year we visited

Easter Break

Although we took a water taxi direct form the airport and this is the best way to do it,the public transport link stops right near the hotel. This is also very usefull for transport during your stay. if you dont want a buffet breafast there are many snack bars around the hotel. We had four rooms and all were good. its near most of the major sights so you can get up early a beat the day tripppers.

Coffee Machine Closed after 10PM!!
Posted Jan 2, 2013
Pros: decor
Cons: service
Location: 4 bridges from San Marco and everything else!
Coffee machine shuts down after 10pm! No coffee or hot drinks available at the bar or anywhere in the hotel after 10pm. The bartender was rude enough to confront my wife in public telling her off for "complaining" to the concierge about the lack of hot drinks. In fact, all I had asked the concierge was whether there was anywhere else in the hotel where we can get a hot drink. No apologies were given to my wife from the bartender. There are no coffee making facilities in your room either. We had booked two classic rooms. The double was of good sized but the twin room was ridiculously small with no window or ventilator in the bathroom. Location-wise it was right above the landing platform for the water boats to the hotel which was both noisy and continually in use. Unless you specify, you could end up with just a shower cabinet and no bath or a bath with a feeble shower attachment. Considering the price we paid, it is certainly not value for money at all. The only lovely aspect of the hotel is its decor.
