Excellent hotel right in the heart of Venice

Posted Jul 1, 2014
The reception on arrival was warm and helpful. This carried on throughout our 3 days Great service, super rooms good breakfast - but at Venetian prices! The hotel is 300 meters from St Marks Square so perfect location. We would definitely go back .

Gorgeous hotel with great location.

Pros: The hotel itself is a work of art. The rooms were the largest I've seen anywhere in Europe. The staff anticipated our every need.
Cons: Only one key was provided and it was on an extremely heavy key chain that had to be left at the desk-tricky if not everyone going the same place.
Location: Right next to St. Mark's square and an easy walk to vaporetto stop.
This hotel is almost an attraction by itself. Antonio Vivaldi once lived here. The present owners have an impressive collection of antiques both on display and used as furnishings in each room.

Superb hotel in prime location

Posted Jun 5, 2014
Pros: We liked the central location and old-world atmosphere. It was easy to explore the sights on foot or by water.
Location: The hotel is situated on the promenade overlooking the lagoon and islands. There are plenty of restaurants and water buses nearby.
This hotel was chosen for a 2-day break, marking a special occasion for my wife and myself. The location is convenient as it is just a short walk to all the main attractions and close to St Mark's Square. The view across the lagoon is stunning, particularly at sunset and in the evening. There is a water taxi stop right outside. The hotel is full of antique furniture, including 17th century paintings, and the ambience exudes old-fashioned grandeur and charm. Staff were professional and exceptionally helpful from start to finish. Nothing was too much trouble - an enquiry about water taxi times prompted an immediate printed timetable with useful information. There are no tea- or coffee-making facilities and breakfast is extra.

Eccenttric hotel, great location

Posted Jun 5, 2014
Pros: Character, location, friendly staff
Cons: There is no iron and ironing board in the room (fire regs) and it was expensive to have clothes pressed. Also no tea/coffee facilities in the room.
Location: Great location a few hundred metres from St Marks Square and the Doges Palace. Very busy on the Riva Schiavoni with tourist groups and souvenir stalls
We had a very pleasant stay in the Metropole in late May 2014. Our room was a good size, comfortable and well laid out although the bathroom was small and the bath itself not much use due to its size. The hotel is a bit old fashioned although that is part of its charm. The breakfast buffet was great and the staff very friendly and helpful. The front desk staff a little more brusque but efficient. It was very pleasant (though expensive) to come back from dinner in the evening and enjoy a nightcap in the garden. We were persuaded to take the courtesy water taxi to Murano (we had intended to use the Vaporetto) and this included a tour of a glass factory - this was in the end a bit of a high pressure sales pitch at the factory which was slightly unwelcome. All in all though, a lovely stay in an unusual hotel with a lot of character.

Hotel close to major tourist sites.

Pros: Food was of a good standard, service very slow, considering there were few diners.
Cons: See above.I chose the wrong hotel.
Location: Location excellent-close to St. Marks Square.
Hotel more like an antique emporium-poorly lit and poor value for money.ff

Posh weekend away

Hotel was lovely and the staff were very helpful, bed was comfy, and the wifi was iffy at best lol This is definately not for those who have not saved a few pennies, if you get collected from the airport and left back it will set you back a cool 460 euros!!! More than the flights cost 4 in total for us ! Would go back again we thoroughly enjoyed it !!!!

Everything very good, but the restaurant was pricey and food also not for our sort of liking. On the whole great stay.
