Hotel out of a Wes Anderson film

Posted Sep 8, 2014
Pros: The staff was very pleasant and the hotel was located near popular tourist destinations.
Cons: Updated décor (two twin beds were pushed together to make a queen bed) and the room was musty
Location: Really great location, steps from St. Marks Basilica
We flew into the Marco Polo airport and took a water taxi to the hotel (Which took about an hour to reach). The hotel staff was very pleasant and helpful, but the hotel itself was very strange. I assume this hotel was so pricey due to it's proximity to popular tourist destinations, with the hotel located steps from Piazza San Marco/ St. Marks Basilica. The hotel was a little difficult to find as it was tucked away in a corner (although in fairness, we arrived at 1 AM after a late flight, so it may have just been jet lag). We climbed up a steep staircase to the front desk and then we went out to a separate entrance, to another large flight of stairs to reach our room. The room appeared to be last decorated in the Victorian Era, with a very strange clear Murano glass chandelier that looked like a prop from the movie Frozen. The room was clean, but smelled musty and the ancient décor was off-putting. The television was the size of a laptop screen and was situated 8 feet across the room, near the ceiling (not that anyone goes to Venice to watch TV). Breakfast was included in the price, but was lacking (my husband had cream cheese spread on a piece of cheese) with the only other options being cookies, bread, rolls and cold cereal. The coffee was easily the highlight, tasted great. The guy manning the front desk gave us great, clear directions to reach the Santa Lucia train station (which was a 45 minute walk) up many stairs over windy, cobblestone streets.

Close to St Marks

Posted Sep 7, 2014
Pros: Good location, friendly staff and nice breakfast..
Cons: Value for money
Location: There's so much to see within walking distance.
Found the hotel quite easily after getting the boat (ferry) from the airport to St Marks (27 e return or 15 e one way). Arrived at 11.30 am, well before check-in time of 1 pm, but my room was ready and staff friendly. Hotel expensive, but very close to all the sights and worth the investment as I only had a day in Venice. Despite its central location I was not disturbed by street noise after 9pm. My room was quite basic, but the bed was comfortable. Staff kindly let me have an early breakfast so I could catch my return ferry to the airport the next day. Expedia payment was a deposit and the balance had to be paid before departing, which other travellers might take note of.

Location was great!

Posted Sep 1, 2014
Pros: Location, friendly staff.
Cons: Rooms could be updated.
Location: 3 minutes from San Marco Square.
The location of this hotel was a bit hard to find at first but it's proximity to San Marco square can't be beat for the price. We were literally down the street from the hub so coming to and from the hotel was a piece of cake. The room was a bit small and dated but was a great deal for the price. There's no elevator but the staff was so helpful and hauled our luggage all the way to our room.

Budget hotel very close to st Marks square

Posted Aug 27, 2014
Lots of stairs to hotel front door. Not suitable for eldery or disabled! Unless you have a porter for luggage. Staff very friendly and nothing too much trouble. Had good aircon. Breakfast choice could and should be improved. Otherwise compared to venetian prices for the money, fine.

Hotel close to port. Hard to locate.

Posted Aug 12, 2014
Pros: Staff were professional, and very helpful.
Cons: Include eggs for breakfast.
The hotel was difficult to locate, but once found no problems. The staff were very helpful, and attentive. The breakfast provided was average meaning lots of carbs, but this was common in most places we stayed. We would stay there again.

Very poor

Posted Aug 8, 2014
Very poor hotel, room very small, ypu couldnt swing a cat around, to get to the hotel you had to climb 2 large set of steps, taking a suitcase up these stairs was exhausting, breakfast was very poor they only put out a set amount of food when it was gone they didnt replace it with more food, so if you didnt get up early you almost went without the only positive thing was it was very close to st marks square

Staff a Plus

Posted Jul 28, 2014
This hotel is as close as possible to Venice's biggest attractions. The staff was exceptionally helpful, friendly, and clear from beginning to end. The hotel itself is not quite updated but a good bargain for the city.
