“Location cannot be beat!”

We had a 2nd story room with canal view that was exactly as described by info and photos found online. No stinky canals here, just a cool view onto a small canal and foot bridge. Lean out an open window and watch the gondolas and foot traffic go by. Feel as if you are a resident. Foot traffic was a bit noisy late at night with the windows open but that just added to the ambiance. Room and bathroom were small but certainly adequate and clean with a convenient refrigerator. No wifi in the room though. Rio Alto rooms are separate from the main hotel but the hotel staff was very helpful when needed and spoke English. Breakfast room in main hotel was in a cramped space. It is hard to see how you could get a better location in Venice. Rio Alto is in the heart of the city within a minute of the Rialto bridge and less than 10 minute walk to Piazza San Marco. Other parts of the city are an easy and enjoyable walk as well. We hardly even had to use the vaporetto because of the convenient location. Do have handy the directions the hotel provides you to initially find the place. Although I managed to find it easily, I can see where it is confusing to some. Pay attention to signs on the corners of the buildings to direct you, they were of help to me. In all, the Rio Alto was my favorite out of 5 hotels stayed in on my Italian vacation and I would absolutely consider staying there again if I went back to Venice.

“Very nice hotel”

Great place in a great location, very close to Rialto Bridge and if you walk to the other side you will get to Piazza San Marco in 10 minutes, this hotel is in a great place. Main reception is in Hotel Bartolomeo but this one is better, you get your own key to a place that is more cozy not hotel like, that was a great plus.

“Great choice!”

The location of the hotel was perfect for my first visit to Venice. It was a nice size for 3 people and very comfortable. The staff was so helpful!

“Venice Hotel Rio Alto”

The hotel location is superb, a few meters fron Rialto Bridge and a ten minutes walk to Piazza St. Marco. Shops, restaurants, and vaporetto stations are all two minutes away from the hotel. The rooms could be a little claustrophobic, specially for American travelers or people not used to travel in Europe. Our room did not have Air Conditioning which it was a great inconvinience.

“Bad Experience”

The hotel was right in the middle of the main city center with all the shops and restaurants, which was good. The hotel staff at the desk were nice enough and the price was somewhat reasonable. The reason the experience was so bad is because the hotel room was unlivable for us. Besides the fact that the bed was a bit hard and the sheets a bit scratchy, the main reason we had such a terrible time was mosquitoes. We left our windows open the first night (our bad) and a bunch of them came in the room and bit us that night. We killed every single one and shut all the windows but no matter what we did they just kept getting in the room somehow. We couldn't prevent it and the hotel staff had no answers for us. The many itchy bites and the constant stress and fear of getting bitten at night was extremely unpleasant and made the hotel experience in venice terrible. I would find a hotel that can be sure to prevent insect entry into the room.
