Nice hotel in Ventura.

Posted Aug 10, 2014
Pros: Location, value, pet friendly, comfortable beds, clean.
Cons: Hair dryer was missing. Nicer breakfast area would be nice.
Husband and I just stayed for 1 night (passing through) and found the hotel very adequate for our needs. Very good value in my opinion.

Great Location!

Customer service checking in and out was great, very friendly. We were able to get our keys and check in early. Walking distance to beach, downtown restaurants/ bars and fairgrounds was a huge plus. We will stay here again!

A decent place to stay

Posted Jul 29, 2014
Pros: The staff, the pool/jacuzzi, and the location to the beach.
Cons: Overall cleanliness of room. Carpets need replacing badly and wallpaper needs to be pasted back up - it was literally peeling off the walls.
Location: Beach, downtown Ventura
The staff were all very nice and accommodating, happy to provide suggestions and recommendations for attractions and restaurants in the area. Specifically, Gary at the front desk was amazing. The room had a coffee pot, fridge and microwave. There is a heated pool and jacuzzi that is open until 10 pm. which was very nice to beat the heat of the late summer evening. Walking distance (by foot bridge) to the beach and pier and local eats. On site maintenance person walking the grounds ensuring our safety, too. You can tell they are really trying to be accommodating to travelers and compete with some of the pricier hotels in the area. However, the room was just gross. The carpets were sticky, there were hairs all over the bathroom and shower areas, and it smelled musty and old. I know this place has been around for decades and is a staple of Ventura, but it might be finally time for a major remodel by the owners. Would recommend to someone looking for a cheap place to sleep, but certainly not to anyone staying more than one night.

Walking distance to the beach.

Posted Jul 27, 2014
Pros: Liked the price, location, staff, beds. Room was clean. Towels were clean and were able to get extras when needed.
Cons: Continental breakfast is lacking. Water pressure in shower isn't great. Train noise is a nuisance.
Location: Beach and pier in walking distance. Walking distance or short drive to restaurants and stores. 30 minutes to get to Santa Barbara zoo.
Hotel staff was great. We were able to look at our room before checking in and was told we could cancel if we didn't like it. I thought that was very generous. Walking distance to the pier and beach. Spencer Mckenzies next door is a little fast food fish taco stand. It is a must try. The food was fantastic. Shrimp taco and clam chowder are a must try. The ceviche was so good I am still craving it. The kids loved the chicken strips (and they are very picky). Pool and spa were very clean. They allowed it to be open later than posted. Beds were very comfortable. Our room was clean and supplied with a working microwave and mini fridge. The only draw back is the train at the back of the property. Runs several times a night and noisy. And there are alot of workers that stay at the hotel but we had no problems with that. Were not impressed with the restaurant on site and the continental breakfast is lacking but went a few blocks to Main street and there are several restaurants and bars. The Busy Bee Cafe was very good. Was not impressed with Barrelhouse 101. Over priced and food was not that good. Overall for the price the hotel is a very good deal for the price and location.

Nothing I would recommend

Posted Jul 20, 2014
Close to railroad tracks which makes ur room shake. While we were there a party was in the rooms below an we could hear the man in the room next door snoring. Continental breakfast consisted of coffee old cheap Danishes an Quaker peanut butter bsnack bars. Nothing to drink offered for kids. Ridiculous!!!!!!!

Thanks for your comments. We do have a train that runs close by. I will address the sound proofing issues with the owner. (Did you have an adjoining room?) I will follow up on this. We don't offer breakfast at this location. We do have an on-site restaurant for your convenience.

Nice hotel close to the beach.

The environment nearby is perfect. Although it is close to the railway, there is no noise at all. The breakfast is no good.

Thank you for the review! We are in one of the best locations in Ventura, walking distance to just about anything you would want to do. We actually don't offer breakfast at this location. We do have complementary breakfast snacks for your convenience. Our on-site restaurant has a great breakfast menu and really great weekday values.

The hotel is old. The room is small and very old. The continental breakfast was very spars. The staff was quick to bring us a cot. The neighborhood is concerning

We are located next to the bridge that crosses over the freeway to the Ventura Pier and beach. A lot of people park back there and walk, and a lot of people just hang out. We have never had any problems.

Dated but good location

Posted Jun 24, 2014
Pros: Closeness to my event and availability when everything else was sold out.
Cons: Water temperature.
Location: Everything is nearby.
The outside of the place definitely doesn't look like you're in for a treat, but the rooms are clean and look just like the pictures. Good- -A lot (I mean A LOT) of channels were available on the cable. -Right off the fwy/bad if getting there or leaving during popular time. -Location is right across from the beach, 5 minutes to downtown scene and food/bars, and a ten minute walk from our event. -Working fridge(cold when you get there) and microwave. -Book now pay later option. -Let us park there after check out/leave car for the day. -Super quick and responsive AC. -Allows dogs Iffy- -run down/ghetto appearance. -pool hours(should run later on weekends or summertime). -understaffed. -diner attached but closes before you really get time to settle in. -free breakfast of bland local Danishes and coffee. -allows dogs. Very Poor -NO HOT WATER. We both took freezing showers between 8am-10am -hair dryer didn't work and there was no replacement. -no one answers when you dial the front desk/called 5 times. -limited parking by your actual room. -no noticeable security/homeless sleeping in the back parking lot.

I agree with you that the restaurant should be open later, but they lease it and don't want to change the hours. Our water heater did not go out, so it must have been super high usage at the time you were using the shower. I will order more hair dryers today, no one reported that the room was missing one. I'm sorry about that. I'm not sure what happened with the phone, there is someone there 24 hours a day. I will follow up on that. Thanks for the detailed review. I appreciate the information.

Stop Over

Posted Jun 22, 2014
Room has a little bit of odor and AC was not working properly. Bed was comfy and overall, the room was pretty clean. NO elevator available to go up the second level. A little bit of inconvenience especially if you a lot of stuff to carry. The surrounding is pretty safe.

Thanks for letting us know about your stay with us. Next time you come, be sure to ask for a downstairs room when you make the reservation. We are currently upgrading the air-conditioners, but as far as I know, they all work. I will have someone check to make sure. Thanks again, and we hope you stop by next time you are in the area.
