v convenient for railway station and airport
Posted Jan 7, 2013
Pros: convenient access
Cons: not best choice if you want the old city and its atmosphere
Location: best for railway station and airport
The 2 hotels next door to each other owned by the same people - and the Piccolo is the better for quality of the rooms. The other one is where I stayed on the first time (depends on how many bookings they have as to whether they spread over the 2 hotels.

not good value for money
Posted Jan 8, 2013
Hotel Martini next door is where you have to book in, also where the free drinks are, and where reception is. Piccolo is 'tired', hallway/stairs carpet almost threadbare, the room was small, the shower smelled damp, there was a blanket on the beds - how often would they be washed? It is quite a long walk into town. The cost of the room was not good value for money.

Reasonable hotel well placed for public transport
Posted Jan 2, 2012
We were travelling by train so being near the station was helpful. The location was fairly quiet too. The buffet breakfast was pretty good - nothing cooked, but a good selection of cereal, breads, yoghurt, fruit etc. We were expecting tea/coffee making in our room, which didn't exist - this bit of the spec needs to be clarified. The centre of Verona is a little way off, but walkable, and there are buses from the rail station. The airport bus from the station is every 20mins and 6 euro, so you're pretty well placed for public transport generally.

Very small room, close to train station

The reasons we stayed here were price and location. Since we don't want to carry our luggage for long distance walk or try to figure out what bus to take to get into the city center, Piccolo is a ideal local with just a short 8 mins walk from train station. This place is easy to spot. One big red building. Piccolo and the Martini Hotel next door are under the same management. In fact, we checked-in at the Martini. April is still a low season in Verona, therefore there was not many hotel staffers. In fact, the guy we saw cleaning outside windows was later dressed up to be the bartender later that evening. The facility is clean. Room is very very very small. One big queen size bed in the middle, 1 - 2 ft of wall space surround it. Breakfast is basic, not much selections, but I still enjoy the self-serve espresso and cappuccino machine at the breakfast area. The internet cost some money which I know when I booked the place. I did not use the service because we were out all the time. I probably will find another hotel next time when I return to Verona knowing what I know now on the city and distance. For 1st timer, no a bad choice.

Piccolo Hotel Verona - great base for exploring
Posted Jan 19, 2012 on Hotels.com
5 mins walk from the train station - where the autobus to the airport leaves/arrives, which is also where the main bus station is. Easy to get to Venice, Lake Garda etc. Hotel is 15 mins walk into the centre of Verona. Hotel was fine. We were in Piccolo section. Room 162 - on the ground floor. Very noisy water system. You could hear every time someone flushed a toilet or used the shower next door. Luckily we came in March (out of season). Air conditioning is ridiculous. It was far too hot in the room, so we asked for it to be turned on. They said that it only came on in June, and to open the window! It was noisy outside! Eventually, on another night the air con came on. Other's must have complained too. Walls are very thin. TV next door seems very loud. Other than that - rooms are clean, modern, tidy, just what you want from a reasonable (low for Verona) priced hotel. Room was small. But wasnot a problem. There is luggage storage too, and complementary tea and coffees in the main reception. (we didn't use as was in the next hotel building) Staff are friendly enough - especially if you make the effort to speak Italian. Breakfast is fine. Coffee, tea, cake, cereal, yoghurt, toast, bread, cheese, ham etc. I would stay again. Though only in the quieter months. There are so many rooms - breakfast and the noise could be a nightmare.
