Vintage charm

Amethyst Inn is a lovely building with a great garden. The breakfast area is gorgeously decorated. Everything is consistently vintage, from cutlery to walls decor. The staff is very nice and accommodating and the breakfast is delicious.

Great house for honey-mooners
Posted Jan 9, 2013
Pros: Style and hospitality
Cons: lack of elevator
Location: 30 minutes to walk to Inner Harbour. 10 minutes by bus to downtown. The area of the hotel has many more exquisite houses to look at.
Really nice personnel. The rating of 4 is caused by the young girl that was responsible for the breakfast. She was very friendly but did not really understand what we wanted. Otherwise the hospitality was overwhelming. The whole house is heritage and the rooms are really exquisite if one likes this old style. There is a drawback to it as the staircases are very steep and there is no elevator. This did not bother us but could be an obstacle for people not so well on their feet. Services was excellent and support with some business matter I had to handle was completely provided. I wish that this house will have all the success it deserves. Recommendation: a good place for honey-mooners. It really has the flair of romantics. And the whirlpool would also be a nice playground:)

Beautiful rooms in old mansion, but poor service
Posted Jan 27, 2013
Pros: furnishings
Cons: staff
Location: easy walk to many tourist sights
The Amethyst Inn is a beautiful old mansion with antique furnishings throughout. The inside and outside of the property are beautiful. Each room is decorated with unique furniture and very functional. We were very disappointed with the staff -- they were almost invisible. If you phone, you get an answering machine; if you need to speak to someone to ask a question, etc., they are behind closed doors on the main floor. Their English was limited so it was difficult to get or give information (especially problematic at breakfast -- they prepared a set breakfast (no choices) and I was concerned that they didn't understand when I tried to explain that I had some severe food allergies)

Charming and delightful

This historical home is beautifully kept up to a high standard. The breakfast was wonderful, sumptuous, and well presented. It is in a quiet yet very convenient location. We enjoyed reading the colourful history of the home in the volume provided, and the musical accompaniment at breakfast was a bonus - the owners 9 year old son is a very proficient piano player. We shall definitely return.

close to town

Very disappointed with the service! My husband and I have enjoyed repeated stays at many beautiful B+B's in downtown Victoria but not here. There was a bit of a language barrier and no warmth and hospitality that B+B's are know for. Very cool reception upon arrival. We were handed a paper to fill out, then up 3 flights of stairs to the attic handed keys and left without a word. Later I went down 3 flights of stairs to ask for a bar of soap. The owner had a hard time understanding me. She walked to a closet and handed me a tiny bar of soap and said nothing, just a thank you from me. Our room was small but had a nice jetted tub + no shower facilities + the bed was a bit hard. With only 2 other couples at the Inn, we were all housed on the attic leve when there were 10 other large rooms on lower levels. B+B breakfasts are worth raving about but this not. The fruit + yogurt parfait was good, but the muffins were gummy + stuck to the wrapper. They were serving omelet with asparagus + raw tuna + salmon on top! We requested no raw fish and were offered ham instead. It came with a paper thin slice of ham (lunch meat) placed on top. There was no cheese or flavour and it was overcooked being firm and dry. We packed up and left without a goodbye or thanks from anyone. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone!

Very satisfying in a very beautiful house with excellent service. Fine detail and very clean. Exquisite breakfast all inclusive in a very excellent setting. No air conditioning in room but not a problem for the time of year of our visit. Would love to return.

A wonderful surprise

Pros: The building and the appointments in the room and the super friendly Innkeeper
Cons: nil
Location: Fort Street near Oak Bay
My wife and I had a wonderful stay at this cosy little B&B Inn. For the price we paid, everything exceeded our expectation. The room is spotless and everything from the Wi-FI to the Jacuzzi all work without a hitch. The Innkeeper and her assistant are friendly and very helpful. We had a wonderful seafood dinner recommended by them at the near by Marina. The breakfast in the morning is very nice with each course served nice and hot individually from the kitchen ( much better than the buffet advertised). We will go back again!

Wonderful place to stay in Victoria
Posted Jan 22, 2012
Pros: Ambiance - very pleasant and relaxing, and romantic.
Cons: As mentioned, somewhat sporadic wireless Internet.
Location: A short drive from the inner harbour and all the shopping and restaurants; just down the road from the beautiful Craigdarroch castle.
Staff was welcoming upon our arrival and for accommodating to requests. Breakfasts were excellent (especially the apricot scones). The older style house had beautiful grounds and our garden room was pleasant, including a large tub for two, television, fridge and free (though somewhat sporadic) wireless Internet). For our last day, we had to leave before breakfast was scheduled to be served. We requested a boxed breakfast for our journey. Before going to bed the night before our departure, a delicious breakfast was delivered and placed in our fridge for us. Looking forward to visiting Victoria again and we will definitely be staying here.
