Don't book it

Posted Sep 10, 2014
We arrived and despite many rooms still available they gave us a room in the basement with no shower just a jetted tub and shower head you could use in the tub. No screens on any windows in the hotel. Requested different room and were given a room that smelled like old men and stinky carpet. Requested another room this was ok. Beds were not great and no ice in ice machine? Definately needs an overhaul. Looks much better in the pictures. I would only rate this a 2 star.

Not great...not awful

Posted Sep 2, 2014
Pros: Located right on Douglas Street, near the Mayfair Mall. Easy to depart and make my way to the airport in the morning.
Cons: The toilet needs to be bolted down. This is basic maintenance folks. Signage out front needs to be more eye-catching.
Location: Mayfair Mall, close to downtown Victoria.
I stayed here on my last night of BC vacation before flying out the next day. Although it is on Douglas Street the signage could be improved. Perhaps it was because I was tired from traveling back to Victoria, but I drove past it twice before turning in. I believe it also runs a National Car Rental franchise out of the same lot, so parking close to the hotel it limited. Upon check-in I was required to authorize a $150 damage deposit as I had prepaid my room online through this site. It was a surprise to be sure. The room itself was small with dated decor, though the bed was comfortable. The toilet rocked when I sat on it, so some bolts and ensuring that it is level would be a great improvement. I was not happy with my fellow guests who decided they should be coming and going all hours of the night and letting their doors bang shut, though that is not the hotels fault. All in all it was an okay stay, but I won't be staying here again.

Arbutus

Posted Aug 30, 2014
Pros: Availability
Cons: Just a tad over-priced, but I would stay there again!
Location: Not too close to town but a cheap taxi to get to the center or inner harbor.
Nice enough hotel, older, but clean and great staff.

Rundown hotel - doubles as a truck rental agency.

Posted Aug 20, 2014
Pros: The beds were fairly comfortable and the room was fairly clean. The price was fairly reasonable, but the overall experience was quite disappointing.
Cons: The hotel ownership should decide if they want to provide hotel services or devote themselves to the rental truck business. Doing both does not work.
Location: Fairly close to downtown and nearby restaurants.
The hotel was not easy to spot on a busy street with a barely adequate parking lot. The hotel required a damage deposit not listed at the time the reservation was initiated. The hotel lobby was messy, not inviting and the back of the hotel was used as a rental truck parking lot and washing area. The staff was not particularly courteous or helpful. The room was quite small, but generally comfortable.

No air conditioning, fluctuating water temperature

Posted Aug 18, 2014
Pros: The staff.
Cons: Needs to be renovated.
Location: Hotel down a few blocks has a restaurant and store if you need anything.
Staff were pleasant and helpful, hotel is very dated, no air conditioning so room was very warm. Not in a great area of the city but bus route is very convenient. Every morning the water temperature fluctuated. No amenities at this hotel so you must go elsewhere for everything.

Decent hotel, room wasn't ready on time. AC broke.

Posted Aug 8, 2014
We had a decent stay, arrived in Victoria really early so called to see of we could get in a bit early. Lady said she would try but no guarantee. No problem but when we arrived at check in our room was still not ready! Then the room's AC did not work. The rest of the stay was decent.

front desk staff - woman

Posted Aug 7, 2014
Pros: the location was fabulous. easy walking distance to downtown. it was very clean, quiet and affordable.
Cons: the woman on the front desk could be a bit more pleasant at least smile and appear that she wanted to be there.
Location: i walked down Government and douglas and visited all the shops and ate along the way. I also cycled the galloping goose trail and walked the gorge.
with the exception of the woman working the front desk the staff was excellent. The two younger men that worked the front desk were a extremely professional and pleasant. I found the woman prickly when I asked questions I don't think she even smiled. Not a big deal but it was noticable to me.
