Nice hotel right on the waterfront

Posted May 16, 2015
Pros: We loved the view from our room and the proximity to attractions such as Fisherman's Wharf, Parliament Building, Empress Hotel, Royal BC Museum etc...
Cons: The restaurant, we had breakfast there one morning and it was not that good and quite overpriced. We did not go there again during our trip.
Location: Location was great, close to lots of things such as Fisherman's Wharf, Parliament Building, The Empress Hotel, Royal BC Museum etc.
This hotel was nice and had great views of the harbour. We could even lie in our beds and watch the sea planes take off and land and watch the ferries pass by. It was very quiet and peaceful.

Nickel and dime

Posted Apr 29, 2015
The room rate was good but room Internet was $8.00 a day and $17.00 a day to park your car. The coffee and hot water in business center was almost always cold or empty. Very suprising. Overall I was dissapointed with their attention to detail.

Thank you for your review Jeff, we are disappointed. Our Expedia listing does indicate that parking and Wi-Fi charges are additional. Our parking fee of $17 per night, including complimentary valet service, is very competitive with other hotels around Victoria’s inner harbour. Wi-Fi is complimentary in all of our public spaces, including our cozy & quiet Live-Inn Room. Wireless in-room internet is available for a one-time charge of $9.95 plus tax. Although we test the temperature of the hot beverage service throughout the day, we appreciate you sharing your experience with us. We never want someone to leave here feeling unhappy and hope that you will stay with us again.

Faded glory

Posted Apr 26, 2015
Pros: Close to the harbour and waterfront
Cons: Major reno and upgrades
We were disappointed with the overall condition of the hotel. Lots of construction going on outside at the time of the visit certainly did not make for a very good first impression. While the hotel was clean and fairly well appointed, it is in desperate need of a good renovation and upgrade if they are going to continue charging such high rates. Next time we visit Victoria, we will stay at the Delta.

Dear Pat, We share your frustrations as the City of Victoria completes their water main project outside our hotel. The good news is, by the upcoming end of the project we will have our own independent waterline which will enable us to measure, and be solely responsible for controlling the consumption of this precious resource. In regards our own updating, we do have a scheduled plan which we are continually improving our hotel. We have just completed a group of rooms and will continue with improvements throughout the hotel. We are sorry to hear that you may not choose to stay with us for your next visit, but we do hope that we have an opportunity to delight you soon.

Getting tired.

Posted Apr 15, 2015
Pros: The staff is still very pleasant.
Our last visit to the Inn at Laurel Point was three years ago and we noticed a definite change. The hotel overall is looking tired, the carpets have spots, the towels are thin and fraying, the bath robes have seen better days. The outside terrace needs a good cleaning to get rid of the mold. No newspapers in the front lobby, fake coffee cream in the fridge. All little things but the hotel is definitely not on an upper trend.

Dear Linda Thank you very much for your comments and we are sorry to hear that your stay was not on par with your previous stay. Rest assured, many of the things you highlighted have indeed been recognized by our team and actions such as a soft renovation, and the purchase of new guestroom supplies are already underway. We do appreciate, and thank you for highlighting that our staff are very pleasant, as in the end, they are indeed our best asset. On your next visit to Victoria, we hope you choose to stay with us and we have the opportunity to delight you soon.

Excellent Stay

Posted Apr 14, 2015
Pros: Location, staff and room.
Cons: Personally, I'd rather see a higher price that was inclusive of parking and WiFi, as opposed to a lower price with plus-plus fees.
Location: Easy access to everything downtown. Royal BC Museum, Parliament Buildings, tours, pubs and restaurants.
My wife and I go to Victoria at least once a year, and we know the city well. This is the first time we've stayed at the Laurel Point, but it won't be the last. Hotel staff was very welcoming, room was very comfortable and clean, and we had a pleasant view of the inner harbor (or harbour, as it's spelled in Canada). They have a restaurant, but I'd recommend it for breakfast only. It's an upscale, limited menu, and while the food is tasty, I'd opt for a better selection at another restaurant. I can recommend their seared scallops, as they were fresh and perfectly cooked, and the place rocked it for breakfasts. The negatives was a surprise daily parking fee and no free WiFi if booked through Expedia.

Laurel Point Inn

Posted Apr 6, 2015
Pros: Nothing. It was too far to walk to the main tourist area and there wasn't a small store in the hotel or close by where you could buy magazines, etc.
Cons: The attitude and willingness of the staff to make it up to the guests.
We booked a king size bed on Expedia. When we checked in they gave us 2 doubles. We explained that we booked a king size bed, but they said when you book with a 3rd party there are no guarantees (it's in the VERY fine print). After much negotiation we got a room with a king size bed, but it was right beside the elevator. All we heard was the elevator lift and loud conversations of patrons riding the elevator all evening long and those leaving early in the morning. (with rolling suit cases on and off the tile floor of the elevator). When I mentioned this to Jason at the front desk, it was basically a too bad nothing can be done attitude. No gestures to make it up to us, no discount, just a warning that when we book next time to call the hotel reservation desk directly if we want to guarantee a room type. THERE WILL NOT BE A NEXT TIME!

We feel poorly that your stay was not up to your expectations. We do understand how some guests like to be directly in the hustle bustle of town but we believe that the 3 minute stroll sets us away from the rush and makes our waterfront location an oasis within the city. For this reason we do have a number of snack items and amenities for sale at the front desk; I do apologize if this wasn’t communicated to you. I am also sorry that we were unable to guarantee your bed type request as Jason is correct that if you book through Expedia, bed types are not guaranteed. We do appreciate your patience as my colleagues worked to accommodate your request at check in. As we strive to ensure that all of our guests leave delighted, we do hope we have an opportunity to delight you soon.

Great views of the city, port and ocean.

Posted Apr 6, 2015
Pros: The Japanese garden was a treat.
Location: Just far enough out of the downtown core as to not have the traffic woes of the core, but accessible enough to be no problem.
We had a westerly view looking out to the ocean and it was wonderful.

Hotel close to Downtown

Posted Mar 31, 2015
Pros: Staff
Cons: Update rooms with a floor lamp so that one can read when seated, add a mirror in room ----only one was in bathroom, free wi fi as in other hotels,
Location: close to harbor, legislature, downtown, wharf-- all within walking distance
No guarantee that same room would be available for 4 nights booked----had to pay for parking and wifi , no mirror other than bathroom, no lamp for reading unless one sits on bed (incomplete facilities) overpriced for what we received ---would never stay there again

Nice location within walking distance of Victoria

Posted Mar 24, 2015
Pros: Location
Cons: Rooms and bathrooms in the Laurel Wing are old and outdated. A motel would have been better value for money.
Location: Close to Victoria harbour, downtown and nice walks.
Our experience with the food and service was good. We booked a room with a King size bed and were told we could only have a King size if we were prepared to pay extra and upgrade. Also the duvet cover was very thin and we had to keep the room heat turned up to stay warm. Our room was across from a service room where staff were going in and out so was noisy at times. The condition of the room furnishings and bathroom were outdated and did not warrant a 4 star hotel.

Thank you for your comments Sara. Although our Expedia listing does indicate that bed-types are assigned based on availability, we can certainly understand your disappointment. We agree that our room furnishings need updating and we are currently placing new furniture pieces in our rooms. Though they were not in place for your most recent stay, we hope that you will notice an improvement on your next visit.
