Pros: Cleanliness and comfort
Cons: The shower stall is a bit to small, hard to move around in.
Location: It is in walking distance to downtown but out far enough not to hear all the traffic noise
Room was very clean and bed quite comfortable. Staff was quite helpful when needed.

I LOVE THIS HOTEL

Posted Mar 19, 2015
Pros: I PARTICULARY LIKE HOW PLEASANT THE STAFF MEMBERS ARE. STEVE IS A FAVORITE FOR HIS THOUGHTFULNESS AND HELPFULNESS.
Cons: I HAVE NOT IMPROVEMENTS IN MIND.
Location: THE INNER HARBOR IS BUT A FEW BLOCKS AWAY. THE JAMES BAY INN IS LOCATED ON GOVERNMENT STREET - - WHICH IS LEAFY AND GREEN AND VERY SAFE AND PLEASANT.
I HAVE BEEN STAYING AT THE JAMES BAY INN FOR THE LAST 10 YEARS. THE SERVICE IS OUTSTANDING. THE HOTEL IS QUAINT AND CHARMING. AND EVERYTHING IN DOWNTOWN VICTORIA IS JUST A FEW BLOCKS AWAY.

We always stay here

Posted Feb 21, 2015
Pros: Close to everything downtown, including Becon Park. Food available in Pub and Resturant. Great neighborhood. Historical Inn. Price
Cons: Radiators are too hot and you can not turn some of them off. More electrical outlets in the rooms. No coffee makers, micros or fridges in the rooms.
Location: Easy access to absolutely everything
For years we have chosen to stay here due to its proximity to everything, great neighborhood and great Pub in which you get a 15% discount. But several times now we have been given more inferior rooms. The radiators are too hot we had to have the fan on there was only one electrical outlet. We had the window open all night. It was clean. We couldn't have stayed there more than one night. We got the cheapest room we could afford so I guess that is why we got an inferior room.

Quiet neighborhood

Posted Feb 19, 2015
Pros: Heritage building; had supper twice in the pub and it was just fine. Nerissa at the front desk was very helpful with anything we needed.
Cons: there is quite a bit of noise in the morning from hallway, so don't plan to sleep in
Location: we didn't have a vehicle but were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go.
Stayed here a couple of nights to be within walking distance of ocean and downtown without the noise and traffic.

We were there in the winter and our room was nice

Posted Jan 4, 2015
Pros: Staff, ambiance, location.
Cons: The restaurant could use a menu upgrade, Coffee shop has a great breakfast but we found that the evening menu a little greasy
Location: Close to all downtown attractions.
Our room was small so the staff went out of their way to upgrade us to a larger room. Close to the harbor , legislature building and the Empress hotel, just a short walk to the Emily Carr home.

pleasant stay

We stayed one night during low season. We had requested a quiet room, no view, away from the pub. Our small budget room was peaceful, clean, newly remodeled, and basic. No extra frills. There was a hair drier on request. the staff were helpful & available to answer questions regarding the neighborhood & nearby eating establishments for dinner. The coffee in the lobby in the morning was good & fesh. We ate a delicious breakfast in the restaurant downstairs. The omlet had fresh veggies, likely local which is important to us. Location good: close to bus line, Beacon Hill Park, the Parliment Building, the Royal. Museum, waterfront, etc,

enjoyable stay

i have stayed here a few times now and will again in the future. wonderful to find a reasonably priced hotel that is in a quiet neighbourhood and not on a busy street. i live out of town and go to victoria for theatre events. the J.B.I. is close enough to walk to the theatre yet far enough from downtown as to be quiet.
