A heavenly placePosted Nov 23, 2013
Location: Loved walking out on the spit with the locals and their dogs! About an hour's drive to Victoria
We stayed at Sooke Harbour House 10 years ago for one night and the experience was memorable. We were finally able to return last week and found it to be equally wonderful--the beautiful art of many local painters and craftspeople displayed everywhere, the uniqueness of each room, the hand hewn wooden bed boards and other beautiful wood details, the hot tub, fireplace and beautiful vistas. The restaurant is also superlative. Creative, delicious, fabulous wine list and wonderful service.

We really went for the dining experience as it is a highly recommended restaurant. Our suite was lovely, but the fireplace didn't draw very well. Had a wonderful time and the dinner and breakfast were superb. Well worth the trip1

Completely UnexpectedPosted Aug 22, 2013 on Hotels.com
We ended up staying here because downtown Victoria was sold out...were we ever glad! We had recently commented that we were hard pressed to find a place to stay that was nicer than our own home as we just built a luxury home...our room was amazing and unexpected. The food some of the best we have ever had...and we are quite well travelled so that is saying something! We plan on making the Sooke Harbour House our new annual tradition for our anniversary

Gorgeous room, VERY busy place, bed a little mushyPosted Aug 11, 2013
Pros: Our room, #1, the Artist Study, was really quite pretty and felt very private. Very large tub and a separate walk-in shower, bed in an alcove, lvgrm.
Cons: After-hours instructions for entering and exiting the building need to be clearer. It took us 10 full minutes to figure out how to leave at 5:30am!
Location: whale watching, walking, Sooke Fine Art Show. In town the cafe "A Stick in the Mud" is really hard to find but oh so worth it! Ask! BEST COFFEE EVER!
We had heard great things about the Sooke Harbour House and so deliberately ventured to Sooke to stay while on VCI. The rooms themselves are really lovely, dinner was good but not exceptional, the sorbet was outstanding, and the place was so busy that it felt hectic rather than restful. The wireless in our room did not work at first but fortunately my husband phoned the front desk which was able to give us a password for another network. One front desk clerk was very helpful in trying to arrange whale-watching, although it was fully booked. Later, another clerk, when I mentioned it, said, "Oh yes, there has been a cancellation. I was going to leave you a message." But she hadn't so it was good I had brought it up. The art at the Harbour House is fun and local.

Needs cleanup and renovation-Posted Aug 6, 2013 on Hotels.com
View of harbor was great, however the room we were in was not even close to the level of decor or renovation of the other rooms visited. Our room had worn furniture with mix matching colored pillows. Holes in couch and stained carpet. The room color was institutional rather than warm or comfortable. Again, different from some of the the other rooms seen. Cleanliness was average. Outside room whirlpool was not clean nor was the balcony. The inside coffee area was basic and with only basic carpentry that did not go with the rest of the inn. Room just wasn't put together well at all. Bed was worn and not comfortable and needs replacing with better and newer pillows as well. Also, recommendation for fishing guide that the hotel offered was a poor experience. Guide was condescending and rough in treatment of me and my wife which was a huge disappointment. Lastly, the restaurant had our reservation for corner table and gave the table away to other guests right in front of us and when confronted about it, would not provide the table reserved and noted on the table sketch with names and nos. Very disappointing experience as well.

Great place for relaxing, honeymoon or weddingPosted Jul 30, 2013 on Hotels.com
Great place - unlike sterile hotels,.. lots of personality, special rooms and great surroundings. Good walking close by. Outstanding restaurant with good wine list. Our room had a small garden - all plants on the premises are edible!

Honeymooners paradisePosted Jun 10, 2013
Pros: The lapping of the sea below the window
Cons: limited choice on the room service menu, but compensated for my making the set meal available piece-meal
A perfect place for couples. Languid walks. Hot tub on our balcony. Beautifully presented food. + room service if required.

There's no need for length. Sooke Harbour House meets and exceeds expectations in every way. The owner upgraded our room and his restaurant is an epicurean wonder. You'll find relaxation and rejuvenation here.

Nice getawayPosted May 25, 2013
Pros: Location and the food
Nice hotel, very interesting meals - you must be prepared for out of the ordinary food. Only negative was weak and inconsistent WiFi.
